College basketball within the MAC this evening and the Eastern Michigan Eagles will battle it out with the Bowling Green Falcons at Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Eagles check in at 1-1 in the MAC and they are off a 77-68 home loss to Buffalo, while the Falcons have gone 1-1 in league play and are off a 76-71 road win over Ball State.
Rebounding Dooms Eagles vs Bulls
The Eastern Michigan Eagles are off to a 9-6 start overall and a 1-1 start in the MAC. They began with an 85-63 home win over Central Michigan, but followed that up with a77-68 home loss to Buffalo. Their defense played rather well in the game, but they were outrebounded 44-30 in the loss and that really cost them, especially with the 15 offensive rebounds that they allowed, compared to the eight offensive rebounds that they grabbed. They are now 150th in the nation in rebounding at 36.5. The Eagles shot just 36.8% in the game overall, including just 30.0% from long range, while the defense allowed 38.7% shooting overall and 25.0% from long range. Leading the attack for the Eagles was Willie Mangum IV, who had 17 points, while 2nd was Ray Lee and Baylee Steele, who both had 12. The Eagles have six players that have averaged at least 7.1 ppg and they have been led by Willie Mangum IV at 16.7 ppg, while Ray lee is 2nd at 15.6 ppg and 3rd is James Thompson IV at 14.4 ppg to round out the double-digit scorers on the team.
Eastern Michigan comes in ranked 26th in the nation in scoring, putting up just 83.8 ppg, while also ranking 126th in shooting overall (45.6%), 265th in 3-point shooting (32.8%) and 36th in free throw shooting (75.3%). At the defensive end of the floor they have been below average as they come in ranked 212th in points allowed, giving up just 73.2 ppg, while also ranking 93rd in defensive FG% (41.2%) and 83rd in 3-point defense (32.0%).
Lillard Leads Falcons Over Cardinals
The Bowling Green Falcons are off to a below .500 start overall, but they are now 1-1 in the MAC after taking down Ball State on the road by a score of 76-71. Their defense really played well in the game as they allowed the cardinals to shoot for just 41.2% overall and hit just four of their 25 shots from long range, plus they also forced 18 turnovers in the game. On offense, they weren’t great as they shot just 43.3% from the field overall and just 35.7% from long range. Just a mediocre night on offense, but they did enough to grab their first conference win of the year. Leading their attack was Antwon Lillard, who had 19 points and eight board, while Demajeo Wiggins had 17 points and Zack Denny had 15 points to round out the double-digit scorers in the game. Denny also had eight board. The Falcons have a little depth with seven players that have averaged at least 6.0 ppg. They have been led by Wes Alcegaire, who is averaging 12.8 ppg, while 2nd is Zack Denny at 12.5 ppg and 3rd is Demajeo Wiggins at 10.7 ppg to round out their double-digit scorers.
Bowling Green checks in at 171st in the nation in scoring, putting up just 74.5 ppg, while also ranking 245th in shooting overall (42.9%), 110th in 3-point shooting (36.8%) and 226th in free throw shooting (68.0%). At the defensive end of the floor they have not been great as they come in ranked 203rd in points allowed, giving up 72.6 ppg, while also ranking 209th in defensive FG% (43.8%) and 97th in 3-point defense (32.4%).

This should be an interesting game in the MAC as we have a couple of teams that are fairly evenly matched. Both teams have been a bit below average on defense, but the Eagles have a pretty big edge at the offensive end of the floor as they have averaged 83.8 ppg, while the Falcons have put up 74.5 ppg. It will be that offense that makes the difference in this game. The Eagles are 7-1 ATS in their last eight trips to Bowling Green, while the road team is 11-4 ATS the last 15 games in this series. Take the road team with the better offense in this one.
