Alabama is coming off an 80-67 home loss to Florida on Tuesday. The Tide are now 2-1 in the SEC but it’s been a rough week for the hoops and football teams. LSU has now lost two straight after winning their first two conference games. They were crushed on the road at Texas A&M, 92-62 on Wednesday. Last season, LSU beat Alabama on the road by two but lost at home by seven.
Tide can’t handle Gators
Florida appears to be back as one of the top SEC teams, while Alabama is well…a football school. Avery Johnson has a lot of work to do to get the Crimson Tide to the level of their football team or at least close. Braxton Key had 24 points on 3-of-4 3-point shooting to help the Tide. Alabama shot 46 percent from the field and outrebounded the Gators by eight. However, they shot just 50 percent from the line (16-of-32) and committed 18 turnovers with just eight assists. Florida also shot well from the field, making 47.2 percent from the field.
Key leads the Crimson Tide with just 10.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds. Guard Dazon Ingram adds 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Alabama is averaging just 67.8 points per game and is shooting 42.8 percent from the field. They are strong defensively, allowing just 62.4 points per game and 40 percent from the field.
No offense + no defense results in a blowout
LSU shot 36.8 percent from the field, 50% (9-18) from the line and 3-of-14 (21.4%) from beyond the arc on Wednesday against Texas A&M. The Aggies shot 56.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded theTigers by 13. LSU was down by 16 at the half. Coach Johnny Jones decided to make three changes to the starting lineup but it got even worse in the second half. The Aggies scored on each of their first eight possessions to take a 61-34 lead. Game over.
Antonio Blakeney scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Tigers. He’s been the most consistent Tigers, averaging 17.5 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc. Forward Duop Reath adds 13.8i points and 5.9 rebounds. LSU averages 76.3 points per game and 46.2 percent from the field (35.6% 3pt). They allow 78.2 points per game and 45.6 percent from the field (35.1% 3pt).
College Basketball Trends:
- Favorite is 11-4-1 ATS last 16 in series.
- 7-0 ATS last 7 after a DD loss at home.
- 1-4 ATS last 5 Saturday games.
- 3-8 ATS last 11 SEC.
These are two struggling teams, but LSU is just lost right now. They are struggling to remain competitive while Alabama will fight under Avery Johnson. Neither team is likely going to the NCAA’s but ‘Bama could at least make the postseason.
