No. 19. Virginia Cavaliers (12-3 SU, 8-5 ATS, 5-8 O/U) at Clemson Tigers (11-4 SU, 7-6 ATS, 7-6 O/U)

When and Where: Saturday, Jan. 14, Littlejohn Coliseum, Clemson, S.C., 12pmET

Line: Virginia -2

Total: 124.5

Virginia is coming off a 79-62 win over Wake Forest at home on Sunday. They bounced back from two straight losses to Florida State (60-58) and Pittsburgh on the road in overtime (88-76). Clemson has lost three straight after getting upset by Georgia Tech on Thursday night. Clemson faced Virginia just one time last season and fell on the road, 69-62.

Perrantes leads UVa over Wake Foerst

Virginia is known for their defense, but they can score big on occasion. They shot 49.1 percent from the field and 47.4 percent (9-19) from beyond the arc against Wake Forest on Sunday. Senior point guard London Perrantes led the way with 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Marial Shayok added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. They also held the Demon Deacs to just 40.4 percent shooting from the field and 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.

UVa leads the nation in points allowed per game at 52.1 ppg and they are fourth in field goal percentage defense (37.1%). On offense, they are averaging a pedestrian 69.5 points per game, a strong 49.4 percent from the field (15th) and 39.9 percent from 3-point range (20th). Perrantes leads in scoring (11.3 ppg) and assists (4.2). He’s the only Cavs player who is averaging in double digits in scoring.

Tigers looking to bounce back

Clemson was a 9.5-point road favorite on Thursday and lost by 12 points to Georgia Tech, 75-63. Senior forward Jaron Blossomgame scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead the Tigers. However, the four other Clemson starters went a combined 7-for-30 from the field. Forward Donte Grantham is shooting 31 percent from the field in ACC action, after averaging 10.2 points per game. Sophomore guard Shelton Mitchell missed all seven shots on Thursday night but handed out five assists. Clemson shot just 36.7 percent from the field, while Georgia Tech shot 46.6 percent from the field.

The Tigers average 76.8 points per game and shoots 44.7 percent from the field. They allow 67.2 points per game and 41.8 percent from the field. Blossomgame leads Clemson with 18.0 points per game on 50.5 percent shooting (7-46 3pt) with 6.0 rebounds per game.

College Basketball Trends:

Virginia is:

  • 11-5 ATS last 16 vs. ACC.

Clemson is:

  • 1-4 ATS last 5 vs. ACC.
  • 1-4 ATS last 5 after a SU win.

Virginia has won five straight meetings and will shut down the Tigers, other than Blossomgame. This is a bad time for the Tigers to meet one of the top defensive teams in the nation.

Pick: Virginia -2

Clemson has been an over team this season. But they scored just 63 points in their last game against a mediocre defense. They also have several players struggling on offense. Virginia is 9-3 Under last 12 on Saturday and 13-5 Under last 18 vs. ACC. This is going to be a slow, grind-it-out ACC game from Littlejohn.
