The offense is offensive
The Bulls have lost four straight since beating Delaware, 81-53 on Dec. 22 at home. They’ve averaged just 59.2 points per game in that four-game losing streak. In Wednesday’s loss at Tulane, nothing went right. They shot 44.2 percent from the field and shot 4-of-14 from the 3-point line. But the Bulls lost because they turned the ball over 19 times. They also allowed Tulane to shoot 47.3 percent from the floor. Geno Thorpe led the way with 16 points but shot just 4-of-13 from the field (8-9 FT). Louis Santos added 12 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
USF averages 67.1 points per game and shoots 43.9 percent from the field. They allow 70.6 points per game and shoot 40.2 percent from the field (36.2% 3pt). Thorpe leads the Bulls in scoring with 13.7 points per game and shoots 37 percent from the field.
Tigers struggle from the line
Memphis fell by 10 points on the road to Tulsa. They were outrebounded by 12 and turned the ball over 13 times. But their foul shooting was another big factor in their defeat as they made just 13 of 23 from the line. Dedric Lawson led the Tigers with 26 points and six rebounds on 9-of-19 shooting (4-9 3pt). Jeremiah Martin added 20 points, five rebounds and four steals on 7-of-13 shooting.
The Tigers are averaging 79.8 points per game and shooting 47.4 percent from the field (31.5% 3pt). They allow 70.6 points per game and 40.2 percent from the field (32% 3pt). Lawson (6-9, 236) leads Memphis with 20.8 points per game and 10.8 rebounds with 2.7 blocks.
- 9-4 Under last 13 against Memphis.
- 40-19 Under last 59 home games.
- 33-16 Under last 49 after a SU loss.
- 5-1 Under last 6 at home in series.
USF’s leading scorer shoots 37 percent from the field. Tulla Da Silva averages 10.3 points per game but has 47 turnovers and just 11 assists. Memphis will turn up the defense at home as they normally do. They have a lot of length which will frustrate the USF shooters.
