Spread: Nevada -2
The Nevada Wolf Pack are coming off one the most remarkable comebacks in the history of well, comebacks. Nevada was down by 25 points against New Mexico in the second half last week and 14 with just over a minute. They ended up winning the game in overtime, 105-104 on a last-second shot by Jordan Caroline. This was considered the eight-greatest comeback from a second-half deficit in the history of college basketball. Wyoming is coming off a boring 95-87 win over Utah State at home on Wednesday.
Caroline helps stun Lobos
Jordan Caroline (6-7, 235) is one of the bigger guards you’ll ever fine and he has good genetics (father if former NFL baller Simeon Rice). He is averaging 14.6 points per game and 9.8 rebounds for Nevada, which are fine numbers. But last Saturday he played like James Harden or Russell Westbrook (minus the assists). He scored a career-high 45 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and made 17-of-29 shots including 6-of-12 from downtown in 43 minutes, including the game winner with two minutes left in overtime. Marcus Marshall added 26 points on 8-16 shoots (6-12 3pt). Nevada made 15-of-32 three-pointers and 48 percent overall. Defensively, they struggled, allowing 49.3 percent shooting and forced just eight turnovers.
Cowboys lasso Aggies at home
Hayden Dalton wasn’t quite as good as Caroline for Nevada. But he did score 18 points, grab eight boards and dish out six dimes in Wyoming’s big win on Wednesday over Utah State. Alexander Aka Gorski added 18 points on 6-10 from the three-point line, while Alan Herndon poured in 15 points with 10 boards.Wyoming shot 50 percent from the floor and 46.4 percent from the three-point line (13-for-28). The Aggies did shoot 50.8 percent from the floor but made just 8-of-23 from the three-point line, which proved to be the difference in the game. With the win, Wyoming improved to 2-2 in the Mountain West.
College Basketball Trends:
- 9-4-1 ATS last 14 after an ATS win.
- 15-6-2 ATS last 23 overall.
- Home team is 0-5 ATS last 5 in series.
There’s no doubt, Nevada needed some serious luck to come back and beat Wyoming. Caroline won’t score 45 in this game but he won’t need to. The Wolf Pack will be well-rested after getting the week of.
