Missouri State has opened with a 3-2 record in the Missouri Valley Conference after beating Evansville, 55-51 on Wednesday at home. The Ramblers of Loyola-Chicago fell at Wichita State, 87-75 on the road on Wednesday to fall to 2-3 in the league. Last season, the Bears took one on the road by two and fell by 13 at home.
Bears win with defense

Forward Alize Johnson (6-9, 201) had a monster game on the boards with 16 and also had nine points. Jarrid Rhodes led the Bears with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Dequon Miller added 13 points. The Bears dominated the Purple Aces on the boards, outrebounding them by 11.

Ramblers make it tough on Shockers
Wichita State is one of the most dominant teams in the Missouri Valley. Most of their home games are blowouts but Loyola-Chicago gave the Shockers a brief scare on Wednesday. The went on a 12-3 run late in the game to cut the Shockers’ lead to 75-71. Zach Brown hit a three-pointer for Wichita State to stop the Ramblers run as the Shockers went on to win by 12. The Shockers ended up shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 12-of-27 from the three-point line. The Ramblers shot 45.5 percent from the field and 9-25 from beyond the arc. Milton Doyle led Loyola-Chicago wth 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds but made just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. Aundre Jackson chipped in with 18 points and seven boards off the bench.
Doyle leads the Ramblers with 16.1 points per game and shoots 50 percent from the floor. Jackson (6-5, 230) adds 14.4 points per game, 71.6 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.
