Oakland Trips up Norse On The Road
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have played very well so far this year as they are 15-5 overall and have gone 5-2 here in league play. They come in off a solid 79-70 road win over Northern Kentucky, which was the 2nd time this year that they beat the Norse. They are now 3-0 on the road at league play, compared to just 2-2 at home. This is a solid team that is very good on offense, but they have really improved on defense and they will really need that defense to show up here vs a Raiders team that scored 106 points in their last game. They allowed just 39.7% shooting overall in the win over the Norse, including just 28.6% from long range. On offense they hit 51.7% of their shots overall and were led by Sherron Dorsey-Walker, who had 21 points, while Jalen Hayes had 19 and Martez Walker had 17 to round out their double-digit scoring in the game. On the year, they have been led by Martez Walker, who is averaging 17.0 ppg and Jalen Kayes, who has put up 15.3 ppg. Sherron Dorsey-Walker rounds out their double-digit scorers with 12.6 ppg.
The Golden Grizzlies have averaged 75.0 ppg and have allowed 69.9 ppg in conference play overall, while in true road games this year they have averaged 70.8 ppg and have allowed 64.6 ppg. Oakland enters this contest ranked 70th in the nation in scoring, putting up 78.6 ppg, while also ranking 161st in FG% (44.6%), 286th in 3-point shooting (32.1%) and 17th in free throw shooting (76.4%). At the defensive end of the floor they have been solid as they come in ranked 99th in points allowed, giving up 68.6 ppg, while also ranking 16th in defensive FG% (39.0%) and 46th in 3-point defense (31.2%).
Offense Explodes On Titans
The Wright State Raiders have had a decent start to their season as they are 13-7 overall and have gone 4-3 in league play so far. Their offense has been decent this year and better than in years past, but it was great in their win over the Titans in their last game. They won that game 106-88 and it was their 2nd highest point total of the season. They scored 109 in a win over Ohio Dominican earlier in the year. The Raiders have not been a good shooting team overall this year, but they did hit 49.2% of their shots overall, including 40.7% of their shots from long range. It may be a bit harder in this one vs an Oakland team that has played solid defense. Leading their attack in the win was Steven Davis, who had 27 points, while Grant Benzinger and Justin Mitchell both had 22. Very balanced scoring. On the year, they have five players that have averaged at least 8.2 ppg and they have been led by Mark Alstork, who is averaging 17.4 ppg and Steven Davis, who has put up 15.3.
Wright State has averaged 73.4 ppg and have allowed 73.9 ppg in conference play overall, while here at home for the year they have averaged 78.6 ppg and have allowed 74.8 ppg. The Raiders check in at 123rd in the nation in scoring, putting up 76.0 ppg, while also ranking 232nd in FG% (43.4%), 80th in 3-point shooting (37.4%) and 25th in free throw shooting (75.7%). At the defensive end of the floor they have been average as they come in ranked 152nd in points allowed, giving up 71.0 ppg, while also ranking 168th in defensive FG% (43.0%) and 142nd in 3-point defense (33.9%).
- The Over is 4-1 their last five games here at Wright State
Wright State is:
- The Over is 23-5 in their last 28 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
- The Over is 14-2 in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600
The Golden Grizzlies have really played good defense this year, but the Raiders are a very solid offensive team that just scored 106 points on the Titans. Wright state has really increased their offense this year and they have averaged 78.6 ppg here at home for the year, while the Golden Grizzlies have averaged 75 ppg in league play so far. They just put up 79 on Northern Kentucky on the road and should have a good offensive showing here. I look for both teams to hit at least 75 points in this one.
