Youngstown State vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee
NCAA Basketball: Sunday January 22nd, 1:00 pm EST
Line: Wisconsin-Milwaukee -4.5
Youngstown State heads to Wisconsin-Milwaukee to take on the Panthers in a Horizon League game on Sunday. The Penguins have struggled so far this year in conference, but they did end a three game losing streak with a win over Green Bay on Friday, 92-89. The win moved their record to 3-5 in conference and 9-12 overall. Meanwhile, the Panthers are only 2-5 in conference but they did win a one point game over Cleveland State in their latest.
Against the spread, the Penguins have been downright awful at 6-14-1 overall, and only 3-7-1 ATS on the road. The Panthers are a very average 8-9-2 ATS overall, but are only 1-4-2 ATS at home. No home court advantage here.
Youngstown grabs a win
After three straight losses, the Youngstown State Penguins grabbed a nice win on Friday night over the Green Bay Phoenix 92-89. The Phoenix had a two point lead at halftime, but the Penguins wore them down in the second half, with most of the credit going to Cameron Morse. The junior guard had 27 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Quite the all around game for Morse.
Not that he was a one man team, as every single starter scored in double digits. One concern is their lack of a bench, as the starters had 83 points, but the bench only contributed nine points. Only three starters got playing time, and no one scored more than four points.
Panthers beat Cleveland State
Wisconsin-Milwaukee has played better since losing seven straight games that ended earlier this month. They have now won two of four and beat Cleveland State 63-62 on a buzzer beater in their latest. Brock Stull, who was attempting just his third shot of the night, hit a shot at the buzzer and the Panthers escaped with a surprise win. The sophomore guard ended the game with only four points, but two of those made all the difference.
The Panthers came back from 10 points down at halftime, and eventually worked their way back into the game until Stull made the shot. The Panthers defense was solid all night, holding the Vikings to 41% from the field and only 26% from beyond the three point line. The Panthers countered by shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from the three point line.
The Youngstown State Penguins are:
- (no trends available)
The Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Sunday games.
- 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
The Penguins have been downright terrible against the spread this year (so bad that I could find no trends to support my case), but the Panthers have been just as bad at home. I like the way the Penguins played in their latest win and I like them to pull out another win on Sunday. Probably not a popular choice with their overall numbers ATS, but let’s go with the Penguins on the road. I can say I told you so when they pull of the upset.
