The Hoosiers dropped down one spot to #22 in the country in this week’s AP Top 25 rankings. They hold a 1-2 road record which included a 64-62 win against Penn State. Indiana has cooled off slightly from an offensive perspective in their last two games, and they are averaging 77.5 points on the season, ranking them 99th overall. The Hoosiers are holding opponents to 64.7 points, placing them 37th in the country.
Terrapins Aim for Fifth Straight Win
The Maryland Terrapins will be targeting their fifth consecutive win in this contest. They improved to 4-1 in Big Ten play with a convincing 82-67 road win against Minnesota on Tuesday in a matchup that had Minnesota favored by two points. The Terrapins shot a terrific 54% from the field, while holding Minnesota to a 42% clip. Terps’ scoring leader Anthony Cowan Jr. was outstanding in the winning effort, sinking a season-high 27 points on a 7 for 12 shooting performance. The junior guard has failed to shoot above 40% in four out of his last five games, and he is currently averaging 17.2 points on 43.2% shooting.
Jalen Smith continues to excel, scoring at least 15 points in three consecutive games which included 21 points on a 7 for 10 mark from the field in Tuesday’s triumph. The freshman forward stands third in team scoring with 13 PPG paired with 6.9 RPG.

The Terrapins are currently ranked at 21st in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they could move into the AP Top 25 with a win in this one. They feature a 9-2 record on their home court this season. The Terps lone conference loss was a narrow 62-60 road defeat to Purdue. Maryland is scoring an average of 77.5 points on the season, ranking them 98th in the country. The Terps defense has been their greatest strength this season, and they holding opponents to 65.6 points, good for 50th in the country.
The Maryland Terrapins are:
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the Big Ten.
- 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
- 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record.
The Indiana Hoosiers are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600.
- under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I am taking Maryland in this showdown. Maryland continues to excel in both ends of the court, and they have won four consecutive games, including three straight conference wins. The Terrapins defense has been very dependable in Big Ten play, holding their opponents to an average of only 64.6 points in their five conference games.
Furthermore, Indiana hasn’t been quite as productive from an offensive perspective in Big Ten play. They are only averaging 67 points in their four conference games which included a 74-63 loss to Michigan in their previous action. Maryland also holds the rebounding advantage, and I expect a solid home win from the Terps in this one.
Prediction: Maryland Terrapins
Full-Game Total Pick
I am opting with the under in this contest considering the strength of the defense on both teams. Maryland is limiting opponents to 40.5% shooting on the season, and they have allowed 67 or fewer points in three out of their last four games, plus the under is 4-1 in their last five games against Indiana.
In addition, Indiana also features a stifling defense. They have held their opponents to an average of only 64.8 points in their last five games, plus the under is 9-2-1 in their last 12 road games.
Full-Game Prop Bet
I am confident the Terrapins can neutralize Indiana in this matchup. The Hoosiers haven’t been as effective against strong defensive teams. They have scored 66 or fewer points in three out of their four Big Ten games on the season. They only managed 64 points at Penn State, and 63 points at Michigan.
Prediction: Indiana Team Total: Under
Half-Time Side Pick
I am sticking with Maryland on the halftime line. The Terps will have their boisterous home crowd on their side, and Indiana’s defense hasn’t sharp for their standards in the first half. The Hoosiers have allowed an average of 35 points in the first half in their last three games, while Maryland is holding opponents to 32.7 points in the first half in their last three games.
