Alabama was dominant in its latest victory

Alabama has won seven straight games. Its lone losses this season were to Purdue and Oregon, and it has earned schedule-boosting victories over Illinois, Houston, North Carolina, Creighton and Oklahoma. The Crimson Tide beat the Gamecocks by 20 in their latest contest, shooting 54 percent from the field with 48 points in the paint. South Carolina trailed by 17 at the half and never recovered.

Senior guard Mark Sears leads the Tide, averaging 18.5 points and 4.5 dimes per game. A few other Alabama players to watch versus Texas A&M are senior forward Grant Nelson (12.6 PPG and 8.7 RPG), freshman guard Labaron Philon (12.3 PPG and 3.8 APG) and sophomore guard Aden Holloway (10.5 PPG).

Can Aggies sustain their momentum vs. the Tide?

Texas A&M is on a nine-game winning streak. The Aggies' only losses came in their first few games at UCF and vs. Oregon in Las Vegas. They have picked up wins over Ohio State, Creighton, Purdue, Texas and Oklahoma. The Aggies narrowly beat the Sooners in their last game, as senior guard Zhuric Phelps scored a career-high 34 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 19 seconds left. A&M only shot 44 percent from the field, but outscored OU by 16 points in the paint and added 30 points off the Sooners' 18 turnovers.

Phelps is a key contributor for the Aggies, averaging 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. A few other Texas A&M players to watch against Alabama are senior guard Wade Taylor IV (15.7 PPG and 4.8 APG), senior forward Henry Coleman III (8.3 PPG and 4.9 RPG) and junior forward Pharrel Payne (8.0 PPG and 4.5 RPG).

KenPom rates TAMU as the 15th-best NCAAB team, including 27th in offensive efficiency and 12th in defensive efficiency. The Aggies average 76.7 points (143rd) on 43.4 percent shooting (260th), and their opponents score 63.5 points per game (23rd) with a 38.7 field goal percentage (20th).

Alabama vs. Texas A&M expert prediction: The total will be under 161 points in Saturday's SEC basketball clash.

I lean towards the under with the total at 160.5 points. These are high-tempo teams, but neither squad will have the edge they're accustomed to having around the rim. While likely to get to the foul line often, the Aggies and Crimson Tide both shoot just 70 percent at the charity stripe. Alabama and Texas A&M can score in bunches, but they aren't slouches defensively, ranking 12th and 37th in defensive efficiency, per KenPom. I expect a lot of missed shot attempts near the rim early in the game and long possessions later in the game as these teams probe the defenses for better looks.

The Tide and Aggies typically play to the over, but they match up well against each other. With the total at 160.5, I see value in a bet on the under!

Prediction: Under 160.5
