Wisconsin-Green Bay heads to IUPUI on Friday night to take on the Jaguars in a Horizon League game. The Horizon League looks like it’s down this year with the exception of Wright State and Northern Kentucky who are both 4-0 in conference. The two battling this out on Friday are near the bottom of the standings with the Phoenix 7-12 overall and only 2-4 in the Horizon, while the Jaguars are 5-11 overall and only 2-3 in conference.
The Phoenix will be trying to push the ball on Friday as they put up a respectable 75.2 points per game while giving up 73.9. The Jaguars would prefer to slow the game down, as they put up only 68.1 points per game while giving up 73.9. The Phoenix look better on paper, but they have lost four straight.
Line: Indiana-Purdue -5.5
Phoenix lose fourth straight
After starting the Horizon League schedule with two wins, the Phoenix have now lost four straight in conference, including 84-73 to the UIC Flames on Wednesday night. The Phoenix barely even showed up as the Flames raced out to a 42-25 halftime lead and then coasted to an easy win in the second half. UIC was led by Dikembe Dixson who had 23 points for the victors.
On the bright side, the Phoenix got a good performance from senior guard Khalil Small. He made 11 of 21 from the field and finished with 27 points to go along with nine boards. He’s been the best player this year for Wisconsin Green Bay, putting up 17.6 points per game to go along with 6.6 boards and 2.9 assists.
IUPUI beat Green Bay the first time
Even though they are only five and six games through the Horizon League schedule, the Jaguars and Phoenix are playing for a second time already. IUPUI got the better of Wisconsin Green Bay the first time out, winning on the road by a score of 67-63. The game was tied at halftime and close throughout, but the Jaguars were able to pull away late, largely due to Aaron Brennan who made some key free throws late.
The Jaguars have been led this year by Brennan himself, but he’s only putting up 12.2 points per game. It’s really almost scoring by committee as five players average between 7.3 and 12.2 points per game and nine players average more than four points per game. The team struggles from the field, however, shooting only 42%.
The Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix are:
- (no trends available)
The IUPUI Jaguars are:
- 16-41 ATS in their last 57 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
- 14-37 ATS in their last 51 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
The Phoenix have lost four straight, but I think they are the better team. I expect them to jump out early and then coast to an easy win.
