The Boise State Broncos will head on the road to take on the San Jose State Spartans in a Mountain West battle Saturday afternoon from the Event Center Arena. The Broncos notched an 88-64 home win against San Diego State in their latest action, and the Spartans were crushed 92-53 against Nevada in their previous contest. Boise State registered a 94-71 home win against San Jose State in the lone meeting last season.

Broncos Dominate SDSU in Second Straight MWC Win

The Boise State Broncos will attempt to lift their conference record to 3-0 in this one. They defeated Wyoming in their MWC opener, followed by a convincing 88-64 home win against San Diego State on Saturday in a contest that had the Broncos favored by 2.5 points. The Broncos were able to sink 57% of their field goals, while holding San Diego St. to a 40% clip. Derrick Alston came through with his best game of the season against SDSU, accumulating a season-best 30 points on a 9 for 14 effort from the field. The sophomore guard has only reached double-digits in points in two out of his last seven games, and he is averaging 10.3 PPG.

Broncos’ scoring leader RJ Williams has only scored a combined 19 points in his last three games on decreased playing time. The junior guard is having a solid season, averaging 13.3 points on a stellar 56% field goal efficiency.

Boise State is currently positioned at 117th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they stand at 1-4 on the road this season. The Broncos have won three out of their last four games overall, and they are currently averaging 71.1 points, ranking them 253rd overall. Boise State is allowing an average of 66.9 points, placing them 71st in the country.

Spartans Offense Continues to Falter

The San Jose State Spartans will be hungry for a win after losing five consecutive games including their first two MWC contests. They lost to Fresno State in their conference opener, and they are coming off a rough 92-53 road loss to #10 Nevada in their previous contest in a game that had the Spartans as 27.5 point underdogs. SJSU shot a weak 40% on the night, while Nevada was able to convert on 52% of their shot attempts. Spartans’ top scorer Michael Steadman only managed eight points in Wednesday’s defeat. The junior forward has collected six double-doubles on the season, and he is averaging 13.4 PPG and 9.4 RPG.

Brae Ivey played well in the loss to Nevada, recording 10 points on a 4 for 7 mark from the field. The junior guard has only reached double-digits in points in one out of his last three games, and he is averaging 11.9 PPG on the year.

San Jose State is pegged down at 329th in the entire country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they own a 3-4 home record. The Spartans low offensive output has been their biggest issue in their rough 3-11 start. They are only averaging 67.2 points on the season, ranking them down at 308th overall. San Jose State is conceding an average of 76.7 points, placing them 288th in the country.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I am confident taking Boise State in this one. San Jose State has lost five consecutive games, and they are struggling in both ends of the court. They have scored 53 or fewer points in three consecutive games, and Boise State is playing strong defense.

Furthermore, Boise State has won their first two conference games with ease, defeating Wyoming 69-55, followed by an 88-64 triumph against San Diego State. The Broncos own the better offense and defense, and they should come away with a convincing victory.

Prediction: Boise State

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The over is a strong play in this contest. San Jose State hasn’t been able to defend with any success this season, and Boise State just scored 88 points against a solid San Diego State defense in their latest action.

In addition, San Jose State has seen the over convert in four of their last six games due to their awful defense. They have allowed an average of 81.2 points in their last five games. Also, the over is 5-2 in the Spartans’ last seven games after allowing more than  90 points in their previous game.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet
Rating:

San Jose State is going to have trouble in the offensive end in this one. Boise State is an outstanding defensive squad. The Broncos have conceded 64 or fewer points in three straight games, and they should have no problem neutralizing a San Jose State team that is shooting an abysmal 41.3% on the year.

Prediction: San Jose State Team Total: Under

Half-Time Side Pick
Rating:

I am sticking with Boise State on the halftime line. This is a matchup the Broncos should control early. They are averaging a solid 33 points in the first half compared to only 29.5 points from San Jose State. In addition, the Spartans are allowing an average of 41 points in the first half in their last three games.

Prediction: Boise State
