The Hofstra Pride are 14-3 overall and they have won an amazing 11 games in a row heading into a road date with the Elon Phoenix at the Schar Center on Saturday afternoon. Hofstra most recently continued its hot streak by outlasting William & Mary in overtime on Thursday. The Phoenix, on the other hand, are coming off consecutive losses to Drexel, Delaware, and Northeastern.

Let’s play three

Hofstra will conclude its first Colonial Athletic Association road trip of the season on Saturday when it faces Elon. The Pride are proudly bringing an 11-game winning streak with them. It is the fifth-longest win streak in program history and the third-longest in the nation. Hofstra improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play with an unbelievable 93-90 triple overtime win over William & Mary on Thursday. Senior Justin Wright-Foreman scored 37 points in the contest, while sophomore Jalen Ray added 19. It was Hofstra’s first triple overtime game since a 96-92 victory over Northeastern in January of 2016.

Wright-Foreman leads Hofstra in scoring at 27.3 points per game, while adding 4.9 rpg and ranking second on the team with 59 total assists. Senior Desure Buie leads the wahy with 86 assists ranks third in scoring with 9.8 ppg. Junior Eli Pemberton is scoring 14.0 ppg to rank second.

Also in OT

Elon is 5-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play following an 81-70 overtime loss to visiting Northeastern on Thursday. Steven Santa Ana scored 22 points, while Tyler Seibring finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Phoenix. They from a 16-point deficit in the second half to take a late lead, but Northeastern forced overtime and pulled away in the final five minutes. Trailing by as much at 16 points with 17:52 remaining in the second half, Elon fought back to take its first lead of the game, 60-59, with 2:58 to go in regulation. Alas, the home team could not hold on. The Huskies then opened the overtime period with an 8-0 run and never looked back, outscoring Elon 18-7 in the final five minutes.

Santa Ana leads Elon in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 16.8 and 6.2, respectively. Seibring ranks second in scoring with 15.8 ppg, while Sheldon Eberhardt is nearly in double-figures with 9.4 ppg. Eberhardt also has a team-high 62 assists this season. For Seibring, Thursday’s performance marked his ninth career double-double. He is now just 18 career points away from moving into 11th on Elon’s all-time scoring chart. Santa Ana has scored 1,196 career points and is now 28th on the program’s all-time scoring list.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Hofstra is 6-3 all time against Elon and they split the season meetings a year ago with each winning on the opponent’s home court. Pride graduate student Jacquil Taylor has been strong at the center position and leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per outing. He also adds 6.1 ppg. In CAA games only, Wright-Foreman is averaging an awesome 35.5 ppg. The Pride are 4-1 ATS in their last five against losing opponents, 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 following a win, and 4-0 ATS in their last four after scoring more than 90 points in their previous outing. Elon is 5-17 ATS in its last 22 against the Colonial Athletic Association and 1-7 ATS in its last eight against opponents with winning percentages over .600. It is also worth noting that the road team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight head-to-head matchups.

Prediction: Hofstra Pride

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Both of these teams (especially Hofstra) could be gassed in the wake of overtime games. What’s the first thing to go when fatigue sets in? Legs on jump-shots, of course. Even to begin with, neither one of these two squads would be confused with an offensive juggernaut. The under is 5-2 in the Pride’s last seven overall, 11-1 in their last 12 on the road, 9-3 in their last 12 following a win, and 8-1 in their last nine on the road against opponents with losing home records. It is also 4-1 in the Phoenix’s last five overall, 5-2 in their last seven against winning opponents, 4-1 in their last five against the Colonial Athletic Association, and 4-1 in their last five following a loss. Look for this one to stay under the total.
