The Kent State Golden Flashes will take the show on the road on Saturday to Ypsilanti for some MAC Conference action against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. After being blown out in back-to-back games to Kansas and Buffalo, the Eagles bounced back with a huge win over Ball State on Tuesday. Kent State is coming off a conference win over Western Michigan.
Walker leads Kent State to a bounce-back game
Another stellar performance from senior guard Jaylin Walker helped Kent State bounce back from a blowout loss to Bowling Green on Tuesday night, when the Golden Flashes defeated the Western Michigan Broncos. It wasn’t Walker’s most efficient shooting night, but he was able to demonstrate his confidence in continuing to shoot the ball without being shaken by misses.
He went 8-of-19 from the field and 3-of-9 from 3-pointer in the game. The Golden Flashes finished with a combined 53.2 shooting percentage from the floor and 41.7 percent from 3-pointer.
Walker, Kent State’s leading scorer this season, finished the game with 23 points, three rebounds and five assists. The team also got a significant boost from forward Philip Whittington’s double-double—13 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
After breaking ahead with a 44-31 lead in the first half, the Golden Flashes went on to close out the game 88-73.
Eastern Michigan wins in double overtime
Eastern Michigan needed two extra quarters to finally knock off Ball State on their home floor. It was a back-and-forth game that ultimately came down to senior guard Paul Jackson hitting a pair of game-winning free throws. It was a fitting end for Ball State after they struggled from the line all game long, shooting 15-of-30.
Jackson went only 4-of-14 from the floor on Tuesday night, but his most significant contribution came in the 7-of-8 free throws he sunk at the line. He finished the game with 15 points and five assists. The Eagles had two players foul out in extended minutes, including forward Elijah Minnie, who scored a team-high 25 points.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
By the end of Saturday, Kent State will have beaten both Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan in the same week.
Kent State may not be the favorites on paper, but this game plays right into their hands. The Eagles aren’t hanging with the Golden Flashes in a shootout considering they have one of the worst scoring offenses in the country. A high-scoring game for Kent State is pretty much a given with all of the struggles the Eagles have endured on the defensive side of the ball as well.
Teams are scoring an average of 73.8 points per game against them, which currently ranks 207th in the country. This is the one game where Minnie and Jackson won’t be able to save the day. Expect another big night from Walker as Kent State takes this game on the road. Whittington will also be a greater nuisance in the paint than most see coming.
Prediction: Kent State Golden Flashes (+1)
Full-Game Total Pick
The over is 4-0 in the Eagles’ last four games played on a Saturday and 5-2 in their last seven overall. Eastern Michigan doesn’t put up many points, but they are going against a Kent State team that gives up 74.4 points per game on the road. Meanwhile, Kent State is averaging 77.5 points per game. The over will be the winning bet in this one.
Prediction: Over (136.5)
