A pair of SEC rivals lock up on the floor in the Sunshine State in college hoops action. The #3 Tennessee Volunteers are on the road as they make the trip to face the Florida Gators Saturday evening. Tennessee comes in off an 87-63 dismantling of Missouri on the road Tuesday night in their last contest. Florida comes in off a 57-51 road win over Arkansas in their previous tilt Wednesday night. The Volunteers own a 69-55 edge in the all-time series between the schools, including a 62-57 home win in the last matchup on February 21, 2018.

Tennessee Volunteers Look to Remain Unbeaten in SEC Action

Tennessee ripped off a ninth straight win as they took care of Missouri with relative ease on the road. The Volunteers now look to make it double digit wins in a row while remaining unbeaten in conference play. Tennessee trailed by nine with 7:14 to play in the first half before closing the half on a 24-4 run to take an 11 point edge. The Volunteers didn’t let Missouri closer than 10 the rest of the way. Tennessee shot 53.4 percent from the field, including seven of 19 from three point range, and won the rebounding battle 38-29. Jordan Bowden paced the Volunteers with 20 points in the win.

The Volunteers are putting up an impressive 86.4 points per game on the season. Tennessee is pulling down 40.6 rebounds a night while dishing out 20.5 assists per game. The Volunteers are excellent on the defensive end, ranking tied for 39th in the country by allowing 65 points per game. Grant Williams leads the team with 18.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season. Admiral Schofield (18 points, 6.2 boards), Jordan Bone (14.2 points, 6.3 assists) and Kyle Alexander (10.6 points, 8.1 rebounds) are all averaging in double figures this season. Jordan Bowden, Lamonte Turner, John Fulkerson and Yves Pons each put up at least four points a game for the Volunteers. Tennessee shoots 51.4 percent from the field as a team this season. The Volunteers knock down 6.6 triples a night while shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc. Tennessee is cashing in a solid 74.2 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe this season.

Florida Gators Seeking to Spring Upset Win

Florida managed to hold on to get a win on the road in Arkansas to even their conference mark on the season. The Gators look to spring an upset in this one to improve to 2-1 in SEC action. Florida was up 11 at the half and by 16 with 9:13 to play in the game before Arkansas made a run. The Gators saw their lead trimmed to two with just over a minute to play but managed to hold on for the win. Florida shot 31 percent from the field, including six of 26 from three point range, and forced 15 Arkansas turnovers in the win. KeVaughn Allen led the Gators with 18 points in the win.

The Gators sputter offensively as they average just 69.9 points per game on the year. Florida averages 36.4 rebounds per contest and dishes out 13.1 assists per game. The Gators are good defensively, ranking 8th by allowing 60 points per contest. KeVaughn Allen is one of two players averaging in double figures with 10.9 points per game. Deaundrae Bullard, Jalen Hudson, Andrew Nembhard, Kevarrius Hayes, Keith Stone, Keyontae Johnson, Noah Locke (10 points) and Isaiah Stokes all have to put points on the board when they are on the floor for Florida to have success. The Gators shoot 43.1 percent from the field as a team this season. Florida knocks down an average of 8.5 triples a night while hitting just 34.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Gators are mediocre at the charity stripe, shooting just 66.3 percent at a team this season.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Florida has had their struggles on the offensive end of the floor this season and has been relying more on their defensive prowess to get wins. That’s going to be a tough task here for the Gators as Tennessee is an explosive team with plenty of depth and no shortage of scoring options. We’ve seen the Volunteers bomb Georgia by 46 and Missouri by 24 in conference play. Tennessee is dangerous on both ends of the floor and that’s too much for the Gators to handle. Give the points and take the Volunteers in this one.

Prediction: Tennessee Volunteers -3

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Tennessee is a high powered offensive attack that has put up at least 76 points in 13 of their 14 games this season. Defensively, they’ve allowed just three teams to hit the 75 point plateau against them: Kansas (in an 87-81 loss), Louisville (a 92-81 win) and Memphis (a 102-92 victory) this season. Florida has hit the 80 point mark just twice and doing that against the likes of La Salle and North Florida isn’t going to bowl anyone over. Can the Gators find a way to come up with the upset win at home in this contest?

The under is 4-1 in the Volunteers’ last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points, 5-2 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 14-6 in their last 20 Saturday games. Florida has seen the under go 7-0 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and 6-1 in their last 7 games following a straight up win. Tennessee gets their share of the points but their defense helps keep this one under the total.

Prediction: Under 135
