It’s a battle of teams looking to pick up a win in Sun Belt action on the parquet floor. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are on the road as they travel to face the Georgia Southern Eagles Saturday afternoon. Louisiana was dropped 89-76 on the road by Georgia State Thursday night in their last contest. Georgia Southern edged Louisiana-Monroe 79-78 at home Thursday night in their previous contest. The Ragin’ Cajuns own a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series between the teams, including a 102-91 road win in the last meeting on February 10, 2018.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Trying to Return to Last Season’s Success

Louisiana lost for the second time in three conference games as they were dumped by Georgia State on the road. The Ragin’ Cajuns hope to bounce back and even their conference mark with a win here. Louisiana was tied at 29 in the closing seconds of the first half before giving up a three pointer with five seconds to play. That started a 10-0 run for the Panthers and the Ragin’ Cajuns couldn’t get back to even. The closest Louisiana got after that was three, 61-58, with 9:11 to play before things slipped away. The Ragin’ Cajuns shot 40.9 percent from the field, including eight of 31 from three point range, and won the rebounding battle 41-32. JaKeenan Gant led Louisiana with 36 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have been piling up points this season, putting up an average of 82.4 points per game this year. Louisiana collects 36.6 rebounds per contest and dishes out an average of 15.1 assists per game. The Ragin’ Cajuns could use some improvement defensively as they are 317th in scoring defense as they allow 78.6 points per contest. JaKeenan Gant leads the team with 19.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest. Malik Marquetti (15.1 points), Marcus Stroman (12.1 points, 6.6 assists) and Justin Miller (10.4 points, 7.5 boards) are all averaging in double figures. Jerekius Davis, Jeremy Hayes, Cedric Russell and Trajan Wesley all put up at least 4.1 points a game this season. Louisiana is shooting 44.3 percent from the floor as a team. The Ragin’ Cajuns average 8.9 threes per game while shooting 34.1 percent from beyond the arc. Louisiana is knocking down a solid 75.4 percent at the charity stripe on the season.

Georgia Southern Eagles Look to Soar After Buzzer Beating Win

Georgia Southern won their second straight game as they defeated Louisiana-Monroe at the buzzer. The Eagles look to build off that and sweep the Louisiana schools in consecutive contests. Georgia Southern trailed by 11 at the half and was down two with four seconds to go before Quan Jackson buried the game winning triple as time expired. The Eagles shot 46.7 percent from the field, including 10 of 25 from three point range, and forced 16 turnovers in the win. Tookie Brown led the way for Georgia Southern with 22 points and seven assists in the win.

The Eagles are putting up an average of 85 points per game so far this season. Georgia Southern pulls down 35.8 rebounds per game and dishes out 13.5 assists per contest. The Eagles struggle on the defensive end of the floor, ranking 290th in scoring defense by allowing 76.9 points per contest. Tookie Brown leads Georgia Southern with 16.2 points plus 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Quan Jackson (16 points), Ike Smith (14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds) and Isaiah Crawley (11.6 points, 5.7 rebounds) are averaging in double figures. Montae Glenn, David-Lee Jones Jr., Simeon Carter, Elijah McCadden and Calvin Wishart each puts up at least 4.6 points a game for the Eagles this season. Georgia Southern is shooting 50.2 percent from the field as a team this season. The Eagles knock down 6.7 three pointers a night while shooting 31.6 percent from beyond the arc as a team. Georgia Southern has been lousy at the free throw line as they shoot 66.2 percent as a team.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Georgia Southern has momentum, especially after stealing victory from the jaws of defeat against Louisiana-Monroe. The Eagles have the ability to run and gun with any team in the nation, including Louisiana. Both teams are going to push the tempo in this one and it could be a track meet type of contest. Georgia Southern is ranked 99th in the nation in offensive rating this season and they are 5-1 at home. The Ragin’ Cajuns run and gun but they end up falling short as the Eagles get the victory here.

Prediction: Georgia Southern Eagles -7.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Both teams are excellent on the offensive end of the floor but on the flip side of things, you have to be concerned about their defensive struggles. We’re dealing with two teams that have had problems stopping the opposition from putting points on the board. Louisiana has given up 80 or more points in seven of their games this season while Georgia Southern has seen the opposition hit that plateau five times this season. Which team makes enough stops to get the win in this contest?

The over is 10-2 in the Ragin’ Cajuns last 12 road games, 10-2 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 10-2 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Georgia Southern has seen the over go 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 7-2 in their last 9 Saturday games. Look for this one to be a track meet that goes over the number.

Prediction: Over 166.5
