The Buffalo Bulls head on the road to meet the Ball State Cardinals in a MAC battle on Friday night. The Bulls tallied a road win against Western Michigan on Tuesday. The Cardinals were dealt a road loss by Akron in their previous action. Buffalo topped Ball State in both meetings last season.

Buffalo Rebounds with Two Consecutive MAC Wins

The Buffalo Bulls are seeking a third consecutive win. It was a rough start to MAC play, losing the first two bouts against Miami Ohio, and Akron. The Bulls rebounded nicely with a victory against Bowling Green followed by a 78-64 home win over Western Michigan on Tuesday night in a bout that had Buffalo tabbed as 15 point favorites. The Bulls have covered the points in only one out of their last five games.

Jeenathan Williams is one of the top-scoring threats in the MAC. The senior forward has registered at least 20 points in two out of his last four games and is sporting an average of 18.2 PPG on 45% shooting. Ronaldo Segu is another elite scorer. The senior guard scored 20 points in the recent win vs. Bowling Green and owns an average of 16.4 PPG and a team-leading 5.1 APG. Josh Mballa returned to action on Tuesday after missing a few games and finished with 13 points. The senior forward has filed an average of 15 PPG and 8.1 RPG.

The Bulls are ranked 106th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. Buffalo has lost two out of their last three road clashes. They are averaging a remarkable 82.1 points, good for 12th overall. The Bulls are conceding an average of 73.3 points, landing them 293rd in the country.

Ball State Tagged with Second Conference Loss

The Ball State Cardinals are looking to climb above .500 in MAC play to 3-2. They have been tabbed as the dog in all four conference games and have been very competitive. They defeated Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan and were labeled as 8.5 point dogs in Tuesday’s 84-74 road loss to Akron. Ball State has covered the spread in four out of their last five clashes.

Luke Bumbalough is playing well and has eclipsed 20 points in two out of his last four games. The junior guard will take plenty of threes. He is averaging 12.7 PPG and is shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc. Tyler Cochran has shot at least 60% in two out of his last three bouts. The junior guard is having a terrific season, posting 11.3 PPG along with 5.2 RPG. Payton Sparks tallied a remarkable 23 point effort in Tuesday’s defeat. The freshman center owns an average of 11.3 PPG along with 6.5 RPG.

The Cardinals are placed down at 253rd overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They have been effective at home where they’ve only lost one game against Kent State. Ball State is averaging 74.4 points on the year, landing them 133rd in the country. They are conceding an average of 77.3 points, pegging them at 333rd in DI.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Buffalo is one of the best teams in the MAC and is going to feast on the Cardinals in this one. They continue to shine offensively, scoring at least 76 points in four consecutive games, all of which were against conference foes. Ball State is one of the worst defensive teams in DI. They are surrendering 110 points per 100 possessions, landing them 309th overall.

Furthermore, Buffalo’s two conference wins occurred by double-digits, so this spread is more than reasonable. The Cardinals just don’t have the scoring to keep up with the Bulls. They are only shooting 44.1% and Buffalo is averaging 8.5 more points per 100 possessions than the Cardinals.

Prediction: Buffalo Bulls -6.5
