The #9 Florida State Seminoles will make the short trip to Miami to battle the Hurricanes in an ACC clash Saturday afternoon from the Watsco Center. The Seminoles tallied a 54-50 home win against Virginia on Wednesday night, and the Hurricanes were topped 80-63 against NC State in their latest clash. Florida State defeated Miami in both meetings last season.

Seminoles Improve to 5-1 in ACC Play with 8th Straight Win

The #9 Florida State Seminoles are one of the hottest teams in the entire ACC. They are riding an eight-game winning streak and now feature a 5-1 record in conference play to land them at the top of the ACC standings. The Seminoles terrific defensive play resumed in a solid 54-50 home win against Virginia on Wednesday to cover the 6.5 point spread

Devin Vassell is consistently producing and has netted a combined 43 points in his last two games. The sophomore guard scored 18 points on a 7 for 15 shooting in Wednesday’s win and is averaging 12.6 points on 48.8% shooting. Trent Forrest has racked up 17 rebounds in his last two games. The senior guard owns an average of 11.8 PPG and 4.1 assists per game. M.J. Walker has scored at least 15 points in two out of his last three games. The junior guard has compiled an average of 11.1 points on a 37% clip from the field.

The Seminoles come in at #9th in the AP Top 25 this week, and they are ranked 14th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. Florida State is 3-2 on the road and they are scoring an average of 75.1 points, placing them 99th overall. They are limiting opponents to 62.6 points, good for 50th in all of DI.

Miami Florida's Defense Woes Resume

The Miami Florida Hurricanes’ tough schedule continues in this one. They have lost three out of their last four games overall due primarily to poor defensive play, and stand at 2-4 in ACC play. The Hurricanes were outplayed in a rough 80-63 road loss to NC State on Wednesday in a game that had Miami FL as nine-point dogs.

Chris Lykes has scored at least 18 points in two out of his last three games overall. The junior guard is on a 3 for 13 stretch from three-point range in his last three tilts and is currently averaging 15.6 PPG on 43.9% shooting. Kameron McGusty struggled in Wednesday’s defeat, registering only two points but he did collect eight boards. The junior guard scored 19 points in a win against Pittsburgh earlier this week and he holds an average of 14.6 PPG and 4.8 RPG. Dejan Vasiljevic is the Hurricanes' top threat from beyond the arc. The senior guard is sporting a 41% efficiency from three-point territory and stands third in team scoring with 14.4 PPG.

The Hurricanes are positioned 93rd in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and stand at 5-2 at home. Miami is scoring an average of 72.1 points, ranking them 161st in the country. Their defense has been their downfall and they are conceding an average of 72.6 points, placing them 263rd overall.

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Florida State in this game. Florida State is looking tough to beat right now and has won eight straight games including a win against Louisville. Miami Florida is floundering, losing three out of their last four games. They are having big issues defensively, surrendering an average of 77 points in their last four games which is a bad sign considering the Seminoles are shooting a stellar 46% as a team.

Furthermore, the Seminoles' defense continues to stand out. They have allowed 65 or fewer points in five of their six ACC games on the season. Miami is having trouble in the offensive end as well, netting less than 70 points in four of their six conference games.

Prediction: Florida State Seminoles

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect a low scoring battle. The Seminoles are playing stifling defense and are proving to be one of the top defensive teams in the ACC. They have also slowed their pace, averaging 67.9 possessions in their last three games. The under is 17-7 in the Seminoles’ last 24 road games against a team with a winning home record.

In addition, the Hurricanes do not rush their shots. They have only averaged 68 possessions per game in their last three games. While they are not playing well defensively it won’t be easy for Florida State in a tough road atmosphere.  The under is 4-1 in the Hurricanes’ last five games following a straight-up loss.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The over on the Seminoles team total offered on PointsBet is a strong play. The Seminoles scored 78 points against Louisville and Wake Forest within their last three games. Opponents are shooting 45.1% against the Hurricanes this season which ranks them down at 288th in all of DI. Florida State also features a stellar 34% clip from three-point range and Miami stands 201st in the country in three-point defense.

Prediction: Florida State Team Total Over

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

I am sticking with Florida State on the halftime line. The Seminoles' momentum should carry forward into this game. They are averaging a stellar 37 points in the opening half in their last three games overall. Also, Florida State has only conceded an average of 29 points on the road in the first half this season.

Prediction: Florida State
