We have a Sun Belt Conference matchup to consider for Saturday afternoon when the Georgia Southern Eagles meet the South Alabama Jaguars for an afternoon of Sun Belt Conference action. The Eagles are 6-2 in the conference and enter this game riding a three-game winning streak. South Alabama is 4-4 in the Sun Belt standings and is hoping to extend a two-game winning streak when they host the Eagles.

Eagles Three Game Winning Streak

Georgia Southern is in a three-way tie for the conference top spot and has an overall record of 12-7 this season. The Eagles have won three of its last five games and Saturday marks the end of consecutive road games and the Panthers are a 4-6 team away from home this season.

The Eagles score an average of 76.1 points while allowing 71.1points per game and are shooting 42.3 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from downtown and 68.9 percent from the charity stripe this season.

Jags Fall to Georgia State

South Alabama is 4-4 in conference play and boasts an 11-8 overall record this season. The Jaguars are 3-4 this season at home and have won three of their last five games. Saturday is a one-off home game before traveling to Arkansas State and South Alabama would love to get a much need home win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

The Jaguars score an average of 71.8 points per game and allow 67.3 points per game this season. South Alabama makes 46.8 percent of its field goal attempts, 31.3 percent of its triple tries and drops 74.2 percent of its free-throw attempts this season.

Rating:

I will take the Eagles in this matchup. They are a decent road team up against a Trojans team that isn’t very good at home or anywhere else for that matter. I would assume Georgia Southern will win this game by probably four points and mainly because the Jaguars defense isn’t as good as the Eagles offense is. Georgia Southern will have to fight a bit for this win and it will be its defense that wins this one in a nail-biter. I will play Georgia Southern to defeat South Alabama in this contest.

Prediction: Georgia Southern

My math has this one ending at 143 points and that seems to fall a little bit on the low side. Neither team is what we would consider offensive-minded and both sides mediocre defense might make these offenses look like the best in NCAA D1 hoops this season. South Alabama plays a very slow tempo whereas Georgia Southern plays at a much faster pace and the more experienced Eagles should make the Jaguars play faster and that will likely give these two sides enough possessions to exceed the total. I will play OVER at 143 points and below in this contest.
