The Virginia Tech Hokies will host the Syracuse Orange in an ACC battle Saturday afternoon from the Cassell Coliseum. The Orange crushed Boston College 76-50 in their latest clash, and the Hokies tallied an 80-70 road win over Wake Forest on Tuesday night. The Hokies registered a 67-63 road win against the Orange earlier this month.

Orange Defense Shines in Third ACC Win

The Syracuse Orange are targeting their third consecutive win in this one. They countered a home loss to Virginia Tech with a big 63-55 overtime road win against Virginia, followed by a dominating 76-50 home win over Boston College on Wednesday in a game that had the Orange favored by three points. The Orange are 3-3 in ACC play.

Elijah Hughes continues to shine. The junior forward accumulated another 19 points in Wednesday’s victory and he has consistently produced all season. Hughes enters this one averaging 19.5 PPG and 5 RPG. Buddy Boeheim is also looking good, collecting at least 20 points in two out of his last four games. The sophomore guard is having an outstanding year and has lifted his season average to 15.6 PPG. Joseph Girard III has drained 10 three’s in his last three games. The freshman guard is posting 12.4 PPG on 38% shooting on the season.

The Orange are ranked 53rd overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are 2-1 in their three true road games. Syracuse is known for its defense although they have plenty of offensive threats and are averaging 73.2 points, placing them 132nd overall. They are limiting opponents to 65.2 points, positioning them 85th in DI.

Hokies Crush Wake Forest, Eye Fourth Straight Victory

The Virginia Tech Hokies are red-hot. They have earned a win in seven out of their last eight games with the lone loss in that span coming on the road to a ranked Virginia team. The Hokies have also won three consecutive games capped by an 80-70 road win against Wake Forest on Tuesday night to cover the 4 point spread.

Landers Nolley II is locked in, netting a combined 50 points in his last two games. The freshman guard is one of the top players in the ACC and has eclipsed 20 points seven times. Nolley II is sporting an average of 18.1 PPG and 5.6 RPG. Tyrece Radford is also thriving, compiling at least a 70% clip from the field in four straight games. The freshman guard posted the double-double with 21 points and 18 boards in Tuesday’s win, and he is now averaging 9.2 PPG and 6.5 RPG. P.J Horne has only scored a combined 10 points in his last two games. The junior guard is averaging 8.1 points on a stellar 51% mark from the field.

The Hokies are ranked 51st in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and feature a 9-1 record on their home floor. Virginia Tech is averaging 71.9 points, ranking them 170th overall. They are holding open to only 61.8 points, good for 40th in all of DI.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

I am selecting Virginia Tech in this ACC matchup. Virginia Tech already posted a 67-63 road win against Syracuse earlier this month and I like their chances on their home floor where they have only lost one game. The Hokies have won three games in a row which included a win against NC State. They are playing stifling defense and have allowed 65 or fewer points in seven out of their last eight games.

Furthermore, Syracuse has been inconsistent. They have lost two out of their last four clashes which included a home loss to Notre Dame and this Virginia Tech team. The Orange have only averaged 67 points in their last three games overall, and the Hokies continue to play stellar defense.

Prediction: Virginia Tech Hokies

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

This game has the makings of a defensive battle. These teams played to a low scoring 67-63 decision earlier this month. Both squads like to hold possession in the offensive end which results in low scoring games. The Hokies rank 324th overall with an average of only 68.2 possessions per game and they are limiting opponents to only 39.5% shooting from the field. The under is 5-1 in the Hokies’ last six home games.

In addition, the Orange are only averaging 69.4 possessions per game and they place an emphasis on defense. Syracuse has conceded 67 or fewer points in three consecutive games. The under is 4-1 in the Orange’ last five games against a team with a winning record, and it should cash again.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The Hokies should neutralize Syracuse and a play on their team total available on PointsBet is a strong prop. The Hokies held a potent NC State offense to only 58 points earlier this week. Also, Virginia Tech held the Orange only 63 points and a 6 for 17 effort from three-point range in their earlier meeting this month. The Hokies defense is their top strength and they should contain Syracuse in this one.

Prediction: Syracuse Team Total Under

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Syracuse on the halftime line. The Orange defense in the first half has been nothing short of spectacular. They have limited their last three opponents to an average of only 20 points in their last three games. The Orange are productive in the first half where they are averaging 35.1 points, placing them 85th in DI.

Prediction: Syracuse Orange
