Jackrabbits On Top Of The Summit

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are having a great season. They are 14-7 overall, 5-1 in conference play, and have won five games in a row. The Jackrabbits started the year strong, went in win-loss mode for a bit, and have now won eight of their last nine games. The scoring production has been very high and the defense has been very consistent as well. This team is mostly getting double digit wins and they have been playing great ball for weeks. Douglas Wilson leads the team in points per game with 17.7.

In their last game, the Jackrabbits beat North Dakota 87-66. They had a 16 point lead at halftime and put up 40 plus points in both half's. The Jackrabbits had four players finish in double figures in scoring and Douglas Wilson led the team in scoring with 22 points. They shot 50 percent from the field, 6 of 18 from three, and 21 of 26 from the free throw line. The points in the paint numbers were strong, but the turnovers need to be limited. At some point it might hurt them in a close game, but for now it's fine. Their depth scoring has been the main key to their success.

Coyotes Looking For A Big Win At Home

The South Dakota Coyotes are having a nice season. They are 11-8 overall, 2-3 in conference play, and 7-2 at home. This team has been through a little bit of everything this year. The Coyotes started the season 5-0, went into a win-loss mode for a bit, and have now dropped five of their last seven games. The offense has been hit and miss, and the defense is giving up some high point totals. Lately, they have been in a few somewhat close games and South Dakota will try to get streaky again. Tyler Hagedorn leads the team in points per game with 18.4.

In their last game, the Coyotes lost to North Dakota State 72-70. South Dakota was only down seven points at the half and the offense stayed consistent in the second, but they just barely fell short of a win. The Coyotes had three players finish in double figures in scoring and Stanley Umude led the team in scoring with 23 points. South Dakota shot 51 percent from the field, 6 of 13 from three, and 12 of 18 from the free throw line. They took care of the ball, but they need to get some bench scoring. The Coyotes should try to take more threes and try to get some more steals.

Rating:

The Jackrabbits are on a great stretch of solid basketball and the Coyotes are looking to clean things up. South Dakota State has had a lot of easy wins and their offense has really taken off. Even though South Dakota is struggling, they have been in a few close games. The Coyotes are desperate for a nice win, but they need some help with their scoring and the defense needs to start forcing turnovers and get key stops. South Dakota does have four guys averaging ten plus points a game and South Dakota State has two. However, the Jackrabbits have scoring from up and down the lineup and the Coyotes have just a few guys doing all of the work. These teams are pretty even in the main offensive stats, but the defense has been in the issue in a lot of these losses.

Prediction: South Dakota State Jackrabbits N/A

Rating:

Whatever the over/under ends up being for this game, it will probably go over that. Both of these teams shoot very well from the field, make a decent number of threes, and the Jackrabbits are great at piling up the free throws. Also, the high point totals will be there because the Coyotes have been in a decent amount of high scoring games. The Jackrabbits average 77 points per game and the Coyotes average 76.1. South Dakota shoots a little bit better than South Dakota State does from the free throw line, but the Jackrabbits are better at driving to the hoop and making points in the paint. The Jackrabbits also have the bench scoring advantage. The Coyotes will try and take advantage of the Jackrabbit turnovers, but in the end, the mix of good South Dakota State scoring and points in the paint, will result in a loss for South Dakota. Jackrabbits win 85-74.

Prediction: Over N/A
