The Siena Saints will host the Marist Red Foxes in MAAC action Friday night from the Times Union Center. The Red Foxes logged a 75-73 home win over Manhattan last time out, and the Saints were defeated 72-71 against Niagara in their previous action. Siena defeated Marist in both meetings last season.

Marist Wins OT Thriller, Eyes Third Straight Win

The Marist Red Foxes are hunting for their third straight win. They have answered a two-game slide with an 83-73 win over Iona, followed by a wild 75-73 overtime home win over Manhattan on Wednesday in a clash that had Marist labeled as 5.5 point dogs. The Red Foxes have been inconsistent from an offensive standpoint in their 3-5 start to conference play.

Michael Cubbage has netted at least 11 points in two out of his last three games. The junior guard is not an accurate shooter and holds an average of 10.1 PPG on an abysmal 34% clip from the field. Matthew Herasme is playing well, connecting on at least 50% of his field goals in his last two games for a combined 14 points. The sophomore guard is now averaging 8.8 PPG and 4.8 RPG. Tyler Sagi came out of nowhere with a surprising 23 points effort in Wednesday’s victory. The freshman guard has increased his season average to 8.9 points and he is shooting 40%.

The Red Foxes are ranked near the bottom of DI at 337th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and hold a 2-7 road record. Marist is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the country and they are now averaging 59.6 points, placing team 348th overall. They are holding opponents to 67.2 points, positioning them 131st overall.

Siena Loses Three Straight to Fall to 3-4 in MAAC Play

The Siena Saints will look to regroup and return to the form they displayed early in conference play. The Saints opened conference play strong but have since lost three straight games to fall to 3-4 in MAAC action. They were 2.5 point favorites in a 72-71 road loss to Niagara in their latest clash on Sunday. The Saints offense is in a lull.

Jalen Pickett is having an inconsistent season but is capable of big points. The sophomore guard has eclipsed 20 points four times this season and holds an average of 15.7 PPG and 4.5 RPG. Elijah Burns is having a terrific season and has connected on at least 50% of his field goals in seven out of his last eight games. The senior forward is sporting an average of 14.2 PPG on a 60% clip from the field accompanied by 6.1 RPG. Manny Camper is playing well, scoring over 20 points in two out of his last three games. The junior guard has lifted his season average to 13.3 PPG and 10.8 RPG.

The Saints are currently placed 209th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are a perfect 7-0 on their home floor. Sienna is scoring an average of 71.2 points, ranking them 160th overall. They are allowing an average of 73.3 points, positioning them 279th in DI.

Rating:

I am siding with Marist in this matchup. Marist is playing with confidence after winning two straight games overall. They have heated up offensively, averaging 74.7 points in their last three games which is well above their season average of 58 points.

Furthermore, Siena is stumbling, dropping three straight games and four out of their last five.  Their defensive play has been their biggest problem and this is key as Marist has found their scoring touch. Siena has squandered over 70 points in four out of their last five games overall. Moreover, Siena’s offensive production has also dipped which gives me added confidence Marist is the play.

Prediction: Marist Red Foxes

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I am opting for the under in this one. The Marist defense is a strength and they have allowed 69 or fewer points in five out of their last eight games. This is big as the Saints have only averaged 66 points in their last four games overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five games against a team with a losing record.

In addition,  Marist plays at a slow place of only 69 possessions per game which places them 295th in all of DI which means fewer shot attempts. While they have stepped up offensively, they are on the road and are still only shooting 38% on the season. The under is 7-2 in the Red Foxes’ last nine games against a team with a losing record, and it should cash again.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The under on the Siena team total offered on PointsBet is a recommended option. Siena has hit a bump offensively and Marist is a solid defensive team. They are limiting opponents to 41.6% shooting from the field and have allowed 69 or fewer points in each of their last four road games.

Prediction: Siena Team Total Under

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I am going with the under on the first half total as well. Marist ranks 345th overall with an average of only 26.7 points in the first half on the season. Also, the Red Foxes’ defense has been solid in the first half where they are limiting opponents to 31 points on the season.
