Trojans are rolling

Little Rock has won three straight over Coastal Carolina (71-55), Appalachian State (73-57) and Troy (81-63). In their win over Troy on Wednesday, the Little Rock Trojans held the other Trojans to 33% from the field and forced 15 turnovers. Freshman forward Ruot Monyyong (6-10, 190) led Little Rock with 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Jaizec Lottie (6-1, 180) added 14 points and five assists.

According to KenPom, Little Rock ranks 129th overall, 199th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 87th in adjusted defensive efficiency. Monyyong leads the way with 11.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks on 54.5% shooting. Their defense is top-notch, allowing 65.7 points on 40.4% shooting (34.8% 3pt). Offensively, they shoot the ball well (46.4% FG) and are ok from long distance (33.2%). They also outrebound teams by 4.9 per game. But they struggle from the free throw line (68.4%).

Jags struggling with consistency

South Alabama has won four of their last six games. One of the losses took place at home against Georgia State (6-3 SBC) last Thursday 72-63. They had another test against 6-2 Georgia Southern at home last Saturday and this time, they passed it winning 74-68, despite being down 10 at one point. However, on Thursday Jan. 23, the Jaguars fell at Arkansas State 75-71. Josh Ajayi had 23 points and nine boards to lead the Jags, who shot 50% from the field but made just 24 of 38 (63%) from the line. Arkansas State also made 50% of their shots and 10-of-25 (40%) from beyond the arc. They made 21 of 26 (81%) from the line and that was the difference.

Ajayi (6-6, 229) leads the Jaguars with 15.8 points and 8.1 rebounds on 57.8% shooting (28.6% 3pt). On offense, the Jags average 71.4 points per game on 46.4% shooting (31.1% 3pt). They allow 67.9 points per game on 43.1% shooting (34.9% 3pt). South Alabama is ranked 179th overall according to KenPom, 144 in adjusted offensive efficiency and 225th in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Insiders Status:

I really like this Little Rock team. They are trending up right now, winning three straight, including two as a road dog. On the road, they are shooting 46% from the field. They are also holding teams to 40.6% from the field on the road. South Alabama has struggled on defense in their last two losses. They also have had some issues on the boards, while the Trojans have dominated four of their last five opponents on the glass. That's where they have the edge in this one. Take the Trojans on the road.

Prediction: Little Rock

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Again, the Trojans' ability to defend is key here. They gave up just 57 points to Appalachian State and 55 to Coastal Carolina. They play at a 160th in adjusted tempo (possession per 40 minutes) according to KenPom, while South Alabama plays at a very slow 306th in adjusted tempo. The Jaguars have gone under in six of their last eight games, while Little Rock has played unders in three of four.

Prediction: Under
