Cal Poly Continues To Struggle

The Cal Poly Mustangs have looked like a terrible basketball team so far this season. The Mustangs have lost 14 of their first 18 games and they enter this game in poor form after losing to UC Riverside by 33 points on the road in their last game. In that game, Cal Poly's defense was terrible as it gave up 97 points while allowing the opposition to shoot 53.6% from the floor. Now, Cal Poly will be looking to back on track with a road game up next. However, Cal Poly has lost all ten road games up to this point so a victory in this spot would be a bit of a shock.

Leading the Mustangs offensively is sophomore guardJunior Ballard who has been good this season as he is averaging a team-high 11.2 points per game along with 3.4 rebounds. However, he is also averaging 1.9 turnovers which is tied for the most on the team so he will need to make smarter decisions with the ball in the future.

Cal Poly's most underrated player is freshman forwardKyle Colvinwho has been solid so far this season as he is averaging 7.8 points per game along with 4.6 rebounds. However, he is shooting just 37.4% from the floor so he has struggled with his consistency up to this point.

UC Irvine Looks For A Bounce Back Win

The UC Irvine Anteaters have looked like a slightly above average college basketball team so far this season. The Anteaters have won 11 of their first 20 games but they enter this game on a low note after losing to Long Beach State on the road by seven points in their last game. In that game, UC Irvine's offense struggled as it only scored 56 points while shooting just 33.8% from the floor. Now, the Anteaters will be looking to get a bounce back win on Saturday with a conference home game up next. Luckily, UC Irvine has won eight of its first ten home games this season so it should be able to receive a spark from its home crowd once again.

Leading the Anteaters offensively is sophomore forward Collin Welp who has been good this season. He is averaging a team-high 13.8 points per game along with 6.7 rebounds. In addition, he is shooting 49.0% from the floor and 46.8% from the three-point line so he has taken very smart shots up to this point.

UC Irvine's most underrated player is senior guard Eyassu Worku who has been solid so far this season. He is averaging 12.3 points per game along with 3.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds. However, he is shooting just 40.9% from the floor so he has been a bit inefficient offensively.

Prediction: UC Irvine -16.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Both of these two teams have been pretty good defensively so I think that this total is a bit too high. UC Irvine is only allowing 65.6 points per game while Cal Poly is only allowing 72.4 points per game so I think that points should come at a premium in this game. Plus, both teams play at relatively slow paces so I think that transition points should be relatively rare in this matchup. Cal Poly ranks 180th in adjusted offensive tempo according to Kenpom rankings while UC Irvine ranks 182nd so both teams should eat up a decent amount of clock. As a result, I have to take the under.

Prediction: Under 131

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

UC Irvine has won three of its last four games so I think that some of its momentum should carry over into the first half of this game. UC Irvine has the better offense and the better defense in this matchup so Cal Poly should simply be outmatched in virtually every area on Saturday which makes me believe that the Anteaters should be able to blow this game open within the first 20 minutes. Plus, Cal Poly is still winless on the road this season so I expect the Mustangs to come out flat in the first half. Give me the home team.

Prediction: UC Irvine 1H
