The Miami Ohio Redhawks will host the Eastern Michigan Eagles in MAC action Saturday afternoon from Millett Hall. The Eagles are coming off a narrow 62-59 road loss to Bowling Green, and the Redhawks were crushed 81-60 by Akron on Tuesday night. Miami Ohio tallied a 59-48 road win over Eastern Michigan in the only meeting last season.
Eastern Michigan Loses Again, Seeking First MAC Win
The Eastern Michigan Eagles continue to come up short and are still looking for their first MAC win. They have been involved in several very close games but cannot finish the deal and find themselves in the basement of the MAC with an 0-6 mark. The Eagles just cannot break out offensively which continues in a 62-59 road loss to Bowling Green on Tuesday night.
Ty Groce is still having trouble, registering seven or fewer points in three out of his last four games. The junior forward was productive in non-conference play but has been a different story since and he is now averaging 11.3 PPG and 5.5 RPG. Noah Morgan continues to excel, netting at least 16 points in three out of his last four games. The junior guard scored 23 points in Saturday’s loss to Ohio, and he has increased his average to 11.4 points on 41% shooting. Boubacar Toure has only scored a total of 13 points in his last two clashes. The 7-foot center does feature a stellar 65% clip from the field, and he owns an average of 9.7 PPG.
The Eagles are placed down at 217th in all of DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are 2-6 on the road. Eastern Michigan is only averaging 65 points on the season, ranking them 318th overall. They are allowing an average of 62.8 points, good for 42nd in the country.
Miami Ohios' Defensive Woes Continue
The Miami Ohio Redhawks are struggling, losing five out of their last six games overall to drop to 1-5 in MAC play. The Redhawks defense is especially having issues that were evident in their ugly 80-60 home loss to Akron on Tuesday night in a clash that Miami Ohio labeled as five-point dogs.
Nike Sibande only scored six points in Tuesday’s rough loss. The junior guard is having a terrific season overall and he has earned two double-doubles in his last three games. Sibande is sporting an average of 14.1 PPG and 5.9 RPG. Dalonte Brown’s slump continues. The junior forward has only managed a combined 17 points in his last three tilts, and his season average has dipped to 12.4 PPG and he is shooting 45%. Dae Dae Grant has been the Redhawks’ most consistent player recently and has scored at least 11 points in seven straight games. The freshman guard is now logging 9.3 PPG.
The Redhawks are ranked down at 232nd in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and hold a 6-4 record at home. Miami Ohio is scoring an average of 74.7 points, ranking them 101st overall. They are squandering an average of 73.1 points, pegging them 274th in DI.
