The Rams Are Building Momentum

The VCU Rams have had a solid season overall as they have gone 14-5 overall, including 4-2 in league play. They are starting to build some momentum as the Rams enter this game having won their last two games in a row. They have now won five of their last seven and eight of their last 11. The Rams still have work to do to get the top seed in the Atlantic-10, but they will be in the conference tournament and anything can happen in those. The offense is back on track as the Rams have scored 164 points after putting up just 121 points in their previous two games. They are hoping to keep their offense going in this one and that is a possibility as the Explorers have been less than stellar at the defensive end of the floor.

In their latest contest, the Rams topped St Joe's on the road by a score of 73-60 and leading their attack in the contest was KeShawn Curry, who had 13 points while De'Riante Jenkins and Malik Crowfield each had 10 to round out their double-digit scorers in the game. VCU did not shoot well as they hit just 40% of their shots from the field overall, including 35% from long range but they did commit just six turnovers while forcing St Joe's into 18 miscues. The defense played well overall as the Hawks shot just 31% from the field including 33% (9/27) from long range. The Rams come in ranked 47th in the nation by KenPom while facing the 144th ranked schedule.

VCU enters this game ranked 168th in the nation in scoring at 71.8 ppg, 222nd in field goal percentage at 43.0%, 136th in three-point shooting at 34.2% and 142nd in free-throw shooting at 71.3%. On the defensive end of the floor, they are ranked 33rd in points allowed at 61.9 ppg, 70th in defensive FG% at 40.2% and 128th in three-point defense at 31.8%.

The Explorers Have Fallen Apart

The Lasalle Explorers had a nice start to their year as they went 10-4 through their first 14 games. It has not been so much fun for the Explorers since, as they enter this game having lost their last four games in a row. The offense has been an issue for LaSalle of late as they have averaged just 62.7 ppg over their last six games, after putting up 75.7 ppg over their previous seven games. Getting their offense back on track may not be all that easy as the Rams have played solid defense this year. La Salle has averaged 70.3 ppg at home so they have a shot at getting their offense back on track. The Explorers come in ranked 173rd in the nation by KenPom while facing the 148th ranked schedule.

La Salle comes in off of a bad game as they fell to the Richmond Spiders on the road by a score of 75-57. The offense just didn't get the memo that there was a game on this night. La Salle shot just 33% from the field overall, including 24% (7/29) from long range while also missing nine of their 21 free throw attempts and committing 14 turnovers. Leading their attack was Sherif Kenney, who had 19 points while Ed Croswell had 13 points and 11 boards. The defense has not been great of late as they have allowed 73.0 ppg in their last six games, after giving up just 61.6 ppg over their previous six games. The Spiders shot 60% from the field overall in the win over La Salle.

LaSalle enters this game ranked 251st in the nation in scoring at 68.7 ppg, 276th in field goal percentage at 41.8%, 163rd in three-point shooting at 33.6% and 281st in free-throw shooting at 67.1%. On the defensive end of the floor, they are ranked 191st in points allowed at 69.1 ppg, 142nd in defensive FG% at 41.6% and 34th in three-point defense at 29.3%.

I will go with the Rams in this one. They are in better form than the Explorers right now as the Rams have won two in a row and eight of their last 11 while the Explorers enter this game having lost their last four games in a row. The offense has been a struggle for La salle of late as they have averaged just 62.7 ppg over their last six games and VCU has a very tough defense that ranks 34th in the nation, allowing just 61.9 ppg. The Rams have been solid on offense and the Explorers are not the best of defensive teams as they rank 251st in points allowed, giving up 69.3 ppg on the year overall, including 70.8 ppg over their last five games. I do not see the Explorers coming up with enough offense or defense to keep this one close. Lastly, the Rams are 7th in the nation in forcing turnovers at 18.1 per game while the Explorers are 316th in turnovers committed at 15.6 per game. That is telling right there.

Prediction: VCU -9

I will go with the Under in this one and a big reason for that is due to the fact that the Rams have been solid on defense this year and the Explorers have struggled to score of late. La Salle has averaged just 62.7 ppg over their last six games and they rank 275th in the nation in shooting at 41.8%. The Rams come in ranked 34th in the land in points allowed at 61.9 ppg while also ranking 70th in defensive FG% at 40.2%. The Rams are not an explosive offensive team as they have averaged just 67.5 ppg on the road and 71.4 ppg in their last five games overall while the Explorers have allowed 68.3 ppg at home. The Under is 5-1 in VCU's last six games as a favorite and 8-2 in La Salle's last 10 Saturday games.

Prediction: Under 136
