Saturday afternoon college hoops action features a Horizon League showdown between the Milwaukee Panthers and the Cleveland State Vikings. This series has been somewhat one-sided in more recent years as the Panthers have taken seven of the last ten meetings, although they split a pair of battles last season. Milwaukee beat Youngstown State while the Vikings fell to Green Bay last time these two took the court. Tip-off is set for approximately 3:00 PM ET from the Wolstein Center on the campus of Cleveland State for this contest.

Panthers Pull Out Victory

Milwaukee squeezed by Youngstown State 75-73 last game for their second straight win. They have been played much better lately as this marked their fifth win in the last six and moves them to 5-3 in Horizon play. The Panthers have yet to register either a quad-1 or a quad-2 win so far this season. Only one of their ten defeats have been listed as a quad-3 loss, however five of them qualified as quad-4 losses.

Darius Roy leads the Milwaukee attack with 15.8 points per contest. Te'Jon Lucas averages 15.3 points with 4.7 assists and DeAndre Abram adds 10.4 points a night as well. The Panthers grab 37.7 rebounds per game and they shoot 41.3% from the floor with 31.8% from deep. They commit 13.2 turnovers an outing and they shoot 67.4% from the free throw line. Kenpom lists Milwaukee as the 244th best team in the nation while their RPI ranking is 247th and their NET ranking is 252nd.

Vikings Tough Stretch Continues

Cleveland State continued to struggle as they lost to Green Bay 78-74 in their last piece of action. This marked their fourth straight loss and brings them to only 3-5 so far throughout conference play. The Vikings have yet to pick up either a quad-1 or a quad-2 win to date this campaign. Three of their 14 defeats were registered as quad-3 losses while three more were listed as quad-4 losses.

Algevon Eichelberger leads the Cleveland State offense with 13.6 points and 6.4 boards per game. Torrey Patton contributes 10.7 points and Craig Beaudion puts up 9.6 points an outing as well. The Vikings snag 34.4 rebounds per contest and shoot 41.1% from the floor with 27.6% from three. They commit 16.1 turnovers a night and convert on 67.7% of their free throw attempts. Kenpom lists Cleveland State as the 322nd best team in the country while their RPI ranking is 270th and their NET ranking is 305th.

Insiders Status:

I am riding the hot hand in this Horizon League showdown, Milwaukee has been scorching hot, winning five of their last six games while Cleveland State has now lost four in a row and seven of their last ten. The Panthers score an average of 73.4 points per game offensively while the Vikings only score 63.1 points an outing themselves. There hasn't been a lot of offensive production from anyone but Algevon Eichelberger and Torrey Patton for Cleveland State, and I just don't see how they can keep pace with Milwaukee. Turnovers have been a huge issue for the Vikings as they commit 16.1 of them per contest, and I don't expect things to get better for them in this game. The Panthers have taken seven of the last ten in this series and I see them pulling away late to take this one and cover the number.

Prediction: Milwaukee Panthers -2.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect the pace of play to directly be responsible for the deciding of this total. Both of these teams play similar types of ball as Milwaukee comes in ranked 54th in the nation with 74.2 possessions per game and Cleveland State enters ranked 186th in the NCAA with 71.3 possessions an outing themselves. The Panthers have been pulling off wins although their defense isn't the best in the country by any means. The Vikings came up just short last time around and they should be extra motivated offensively as their losing streak now sits at four games. Milwaukee has now played to the over in nine of their last ten games and I expect that trend to continue into this contest that could possibly come down to the wire.

Prediction: Over 137
