The Mississippi State Bulldogs (12-7, 1-6 SEC) will hit the road to take on the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (17-2, 7-0 SEC) at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, AL for an SEC contest. The Bulldogs have lost four of their last five games and have a four-game losing streak while the Crimson Tide has won eight consecutive games. This will be the second time this season that these two teams face each other.

Bulldogs Hoping for Huge Road Upset

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have lost four consecutive games and will look to avoid adding a fifth loss to that streak as they face one of their toughest opponents yet. The Bulldogs enter this matchup looking for a big road upset against the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide who they have already suffered a big loss from. They last faced Alabama in late December where they took a 78-67 defeat. The Bulldogs shot 36.4% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 50% from the free-throw line. In addition, they recorded 38 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals, and three blocks while turning the ball over 15 times. KeShawn Murphy (11 PTS, 2 AST, 75% FG) and D.J. Jeffries (11 PTS, 15 REB, 2 STL, 33.3% FG) were the scoring leaders.

This season, the Bulldogs are averaging 64.9 points per game (320th) while shooting 40.4% from the field, 61.4% from free throw range, and 28.5% from beyond the arc. In addition, they are earning 38.4 rebounds, 13.9 assists, 9.8 steals, and 3.6 blocks while turning the ball over 12.2 times per game. They have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.15 (103rd). Defensively, they are surrendering 58.3 points per game (6th). Tolu Smith is the leading scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game while also earning 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Jeffries is the second-leading scorer for the Bulldogs, averaging nine points per game while contributing 5.9 rebounds.

Crimson Tide Seeking Sweep Against Bulldogs to Extend Win Streak to Nine Games

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been a dominant force this season with their 17-2 overall record and their perfect record in the SEC. They have won eight consecutive games and don't look like they're going to slow down anytime soon. They enter this matchup looking to sweep the Bulldogs while also adding their ninth consecutive win to the streak. In their last contest against Mississippi St., Alabama shot 45.6% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 77.8% from free throw range. In addition, they earned 41 rebounds, 17 assists, six steals, and four blocks while turning the ball over 19 times. Mark Sears 20 PTS, 3 AST, 2 STL, 45.4% FG) and Brandon Miller (19 PTS, 11 REB, 3 AST, 46.6% FG) were the scoring leaders.

This season, the Crimson Tide's scoring offense is averaging 84.1 points per game (9th) while shooting 44.1% from the field, 72% from free throw range, and 34.6% from beyond the arc. In addition, they are earning 46.4 rebounds, 14.7 assists, six steals, and 5.4 blocks while turning the ball over 14.9 times per game. Alabama had an assist/turnover ratio of .99 (222nd). Defensively, they are conceding 69 points per game (169th). Miller is the scoring leader, averaging 19.8 points per game while contributing 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Noah Clowney leads on the boards, averaging 8.6 rebounds per game while also earning 9.9 points. Sears is the second most prolific shooter, averaging 14.6 points per game while recording 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Alabama Crimson Tide has a high-scoring, elite offense that will tear down one of the top defenses in college basketball. Their explosive, fast-paced play will allow them to grow a comfortable lead very quickly, causing Mississippi State to scramble to keep up. In their last meeting, Alabama had two players put out on offense with Sears scoring 20 points and Miller scoring 19 points while also bringing down 11 rebounds. These two have been the dynamic duo that has a huge impact offensively and defensively, so watch for them to carry their team to their second win against the Bulldogs. In addition, the Bulldogs have a low-scoring offense, so expect the Crimson Tide to punish their slow offensive style. Take Alabama winning by a decent margin.

Prediction: Alabama Crimson Tide -13.0 (-110)

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

Alabama has one of the more explosive offenses in college basketball this season, averaging 84.1 points per game, so I expect them to get past the tough Bulldogs' defense, especially with their speed. The Bulldogs are averaging 64.9 points per game but have proved to put up a decent number of points against the Crimson Tide, so watch for that. Alabama has an offensive efficiency of 115.7 and an adjusted tempo of 73.7, so they play a fast-paced game while successfully being able to capitalize on points per possession. The Bulldogs' defense can slow them down but not for long enough. Mississippi State's offensive efficiency is 104.1 and the adjusted tempo is 64, so they play a slower game and put some point up per possession, however, with their history against Alabama, I expect them to put up more points than their average. Take the over.

Prediction: Over 139.5
