Princeton Tigers (0-0) vs. Butler Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 home)
NCAA Basketball: Sunday, November 12th, 6:00 pm EST
Line: Butler -8
The Princeton Tigers head to Butler to take on the Bulldogs on Sunday night. For the Tigers, this will be their opening game of the season, while Butler already has a win under their belt, defeating Kennesaw State 82-64 on Friday night. This is a matchup of two teams who have great traditions, and this should be a fun early season game. Both of these teams made trips to the NCAA tournament last year and will be looking for a return.
Princeton faced off with Notre Dame in their opening game and came out on the losing end, 60-58. It was a great performance, however, as they stood tough with a very good Irish team for 40 minutes. The Bulldogs started the season off 8-0 last year and ended out making the Sweet Sixteen before losing to eventual national champion North Carolina. They ended with 25 wins.
Princeton looks to return to tourney
Princeton will be trying to make it back to the NCAA tournament, after a close fought game with Notre Dame in the opening round last year. They were a perfect 14-0 in the Ivy League and probably got unlucky to be seeded as low as a #12. If they had been a 10 seed or something in that range, I think they would have won their opening game in the tourney. They look like the favorite to win the Ivy League again.
They will likely by led by junior guard Devin Cannady this year, as leading scorer Steven Cook has graduated. Cannady averaged 13.4 points and 3.6 rebounds last year and was the Tigers second leading scorer behind Cook. He shot over 40% from the three point line, and he shot an absurd 93% from the free throw line. Steph Curry would be jealous of that.
Butler wins opening game
Like Princeton, Butler will be looking to make it back to the Big Dance. They made the Sweet Sixteen last year and played eventually champions North Carolina very tough for 25 minutes before the Tar Heels took over. Nothing short of a return to the NCAA Tourney would be a success for the Bulldogs, and they are actually looking for something more.
They got off to a winning start on Friday, although they didn’t look great in the win. Sure, they won pretty easily, beating Kennesaw State 82-64 but they didn’t shoot the ball all that well. They were only six of 25 from beyond the arc and missed 11 of their 23 free throws. Butler has been a great shooting team over the years and they didn’t look the part on Friday. It’s early obviously, so we’ll see how they respond on Sunday.

This is a tough game to pick. These two teams are both good every year and Princeton generally plays better teams close. However, I think having a game under your belt is a big advantage at this point, and I’ll take Butler.
