The TCU Horned Frogs will host the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in inter-conference play Tuesday evening from the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. The Ragin’ Cajuns posted a 19-13 record last year, and earned an 85-80 win against McNeese State on Saturday. The Horned Frogs finished 2018-2019 with a 23-14 record and defeated Southwestern 83-62 in their home opener.

Ragin' Cajuns Open Season with Two Wins

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will look to go 3-0 on the season in this challenging matchup. The Ragin’ Cajuns opened with an easy 95-67 victory against NAIA member Loyola and tallied a close 85-80 home win against McNeese State in their latest action.

Louisiana is glad to have Jalen Johnson in the starting lineup. The junior forward sat out last season after transferring over from Saint Louis. Johnson is a talented player and averaged 9.1 points in the 2018-2019 season. Johnson is looking good, sinking a 43 points combined in two games.

Louisiana lost five of its top six scorers from 2018-2019 which will be noticeable. Their leading returning scorer is Cedric Russell. The junior guard logged an average of 9.7 points on 39% shooting last year, and he came through with a 22 point performance in Saturday’s victory. The Ragin’ Cajuns brought in a few junior college transfers to combat their high roster turnover. They expect a productive season from 6-foot-9 forward Dou Gueye. He has fared well in his first two clashes, amassing a combined 26 points and 15 boards.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were voted to finish in 5th place in the Sun Belt in the preseason poll. Last season Louisianan scored an average of 81.6 points, good for 22nd in the country, but that number will dip this season. They allowed an average of 80.5 points, placing them down at 343rd overall.

TCU Looks to Desmond Bane as Leader

The TCU Horned Frogs head into their first real test of the season on a winning note. They easily took down Division III Southwestern 83-62 in their season opener. The Horned Frogs return their top scorer in Desmond Bane, although they lost their next top four scorers from last year including playmaker Alex Robinson. Desmond Bane is going to have to carry this offense after averaging a terrific 15.2 points on a 50% clip from the field last season. The senior guard accrued 26 points in the season-opening victory.

TCU brought in Jaire Grayer on a transfer from George Mason which will help offset the roster losses. The senior guard saw limited action in the 2018-2019 season due to injury but has averaged double-digits in points in two of his three seasons with George Mason. Kevin Samuel should also thrive this season. The 6-foot-11 sophomore guard led TCU with seven rebounds accompanied with 7.4 points last year, and he posted 17 points and 12 rebounds in his first game this season.

TCU is a team in transition and were selected to finish in last place in the BIG 12 preseason poll. Last season the Horned Frogs averaged 73.8 points per game, ranking them 132nd overall. They held opponents to 69.6 points, placing them 126th in the country.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I expect a big home win from TCU. Louisiana experienced a very high roster turnover with five of their top six players from last year no longer on the squad. They do not return a player that averaged double-digits in points last season.

Furthermore, while TCU also lost several players, they return a big talent in Desmond Bane who has the ability to take over a game. Bane averaged a remarkable 15.2 points last season, and he accumulated 26 points in the season opener.  They also return their top rebounder from last season in Kevin Samuel.

Prediction: TCU Horned Frogs

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I expect a high-scoring game. TCU should pile on the points against a team that does not excel defensively. The Ragin’ Cajuns surrendered 80 points to McNeese State which is not a good sign going up against a major conference team. Also, the over is 15-5 in the Ragin’ Cajuns’ last 20 road games.

In addition, Louisiana is an offensive-oriented team. While they have played two weak opponents they are shooting well, logging a 48% clip from the field. TCU also allowed Division III Southwestern to connect on 39% of their three-pointers in their lone game this season. The over is 7-2 in the Horned Frogs’ last nine games following a straight-up win, and it should cash again in this one.

Prediction: Over

The over on the TCU team total offered on PointsBet is a solid option. As mentioned the Horned Frogs feature the dangerous Desmond Bane, and they also have Jaire Grayer who averaged double-digits in points with George Mason in past seasons. The Ragin’ Cajuns have conceded 16 three-pointers in their two games against two poor opponents, so I expect a solid night from beyond the arc from TCU.

Prediction: TCU Team Total Over

Half-Time Total Bet

I anticipate plenty of scoring from start to finish in this matchup. Louisiana has averaged a solid 38 points in the first half in their two games this season Also, TCU was able to collect a remarkable 43 points in the first half in their lone game this season.
