Northridge takes down NAIA opponent in easy fashion
CSU Northridge took down NAIA-level Life Pacific on Friday night, 76-50. They only had a 10-point lead at the break, but they were able to pull away in an early second half spurt. The Matadors had the edge in many categories, including making 46.4 percent of their shots, going 9-for-20 from 3-point range, and owning a dominating 50-31 rebounding edge. They ended up with 15 assists on 26 field goals made.
Scoring was balanced among most of the starters; nobody had over 15 points in the contest. Junior forward Zeno Lake flirted with a double-double, ending with 10 points and 9 boards in 22 minutes of action. He did most of his damage from the free throw line making 6-of-10 attempts. Guard Lyrik Shreiner, a transfer from TCU and is in his second season with CSU Northridge, came off the bench and registered 11 points and 9 boards.
Fresno State takes advantage of 25 more shot attempts
Fresno State jumped out to a 22-8 start and fully had control against UC Santa Cruz in an eventual 96-65 blowout win. Even though their opponent did hit over 50 percent of their shots, the Bulldogs had the advantage in other statistics. The biggest was a 23-8 differential in turnovers. That led to FSU having a whopping 25 more field goal attempts in the contest — and they still hit 52.9 percent of their shots.
Six different players reached double-digit scoring numbers. Junior guard Deshon Taylor was the overall star of the show, leading the team with 16 points and registering a perfect passing ratio of six assists to no turnovers. He also had three rebounds and three steals. Due to the blowout, plenty of time was given to the bench players. Sam Bittner hit all four 3-pointer attempts and finished with 14 points.
CSU Northridge is:
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall
Fresno State is:
- 6-1-1 ATS in their lats 8 games on Monday
- 25-10 ATS in their last 35 games overall
Fresno State looks pretty solid right out of the gate while their opponent had some struggles here and there against a lower-division opponent. Go with the home team by a wide margin for this matchup.
