The Atlantic 10 Conference locks up with the Mountain West in a non-conference tilt from the Silver State. The Rhode Island Rams provide the opposition as they travel west to face the Nevada Wolf Pack Monday night. Rhode Island opened their season with an 84-60 home romp over UNC Asheville Friday night. Nevada got their season off on the right foot as they drubbed Idaho 88-64 at home Friday. The Rams won the lone previous meeting between the schools, taking an 85-83 win at home in the second round of the NIT on March 22, 2010.

Rhode Island Rams Look to Win on the Road

Rhode Island had little problem disposing of UNC Asheville in a NIT Season Tip-Off contest at home Friday night. The Rams look to continue that success as they head west for this contest. Rhode Island jumped to a 16 point lead at halftime and continued to build on that edge in the second half to coast to the win. The Rams knocked down 54.1 percent of their shots from the floor despite going just three of 14 from three point range in the game. Rhode Island turned the ball over 15 times but force UNC Asheville into a staggering 27 turnovers in the contest.

Stanford Robinson came off the bench to lead the Rams with 18 points and seven steals in the victory. Andre Berry contributed 15 points while Jeff Dowtin added 13 points and four assists. E.C. Matthews completed the quarter of double digit scorers with 10 points in the win. Rhode Island got to empty their bench, giving their reserves an opportunity to see game action early in the season. All told, the Rams’ bench outscored the Bulldogs’ by a combined count of 35-10.

Nevada Wolf Pack Seek Second Straight Win to Open Year

Nevada had an easy time rolling past Idaho in their season opener as they cruised to the win. The Wolf Pack look for a second straight home win here to keep things moving. Nevada was up 13 points at the half and built on that lead in the second half to win the game going away. The Wolf Pack shot 48.4 percent from the floor and knocked down 7 of 23 three point attempts in the win. Nevada knocked down 21 of 26 at the line and forced 17 Idaho turnovers to help overcome a 39-34 disadvantage on the glass in the game.

Caleb Butler came off the bench to score a career-high 26 points and collected seven rebounds to lead the Wolf Pack in the win. Cody Martin added 15 points, seven assists and three steals while Jordan Caroline put up 13 points plus eight rebounds in the game. Lindsey Drew was the other player in double figures for the Wolf Pack as he chipped in 12 points while dishing out six assists in the game. There are things to work on for Nevada: eight of the nine players who saw action had at least two fouls while five of them had three.
