NCAAB: Friday, November 17, 2017 at 6:00pm EST

Line: Florida State -15

Total: N/A

The Fordham Rams will meet with the Florida State Seminoles in Montego Bay for the Jamaica Classic on Friday evening. The Seminoles defeated George Washington by an 87-67 score in their season opener, and the Rams tallied an 81-68 home win against LIU Brooklyn in their latest action. There is no previous meeting between these two schools.

Seminoles Rout George Washington in Season Opener

The Florida State Seminoles had four players reach double-digits in points in their convincing 87-67 season-opening win against George Washington on Tuesday night. The Seminoles shot a dazzling 55% on the night, and limited the Colonials to a 38% clip. Terance Mann led the offensive charge, collecting 17 points on 8 for 10 shooting and added eight rebounds. The junior guard will be counted on offensively considering he in the lone returning starter from last season’s squad. He averaged 8.4 points per game last season and should easily average double-digits in points. Highly-touted freshman M.J Walker had a stellar debut on Tuesday night, netting 12 points on 4 for 5 shooting. Walker is a five-star prospect and will be one to watch as the season unfolds. Phil Cofer also had a strong night in the win, scoring 15 points on a 6 for 9 mark from the field. The senior forward will see a bump in minutes this season after limited playing time last year.

The Seminoles did lose their top three scorers from last season, however they do feature depth with many players ready to step up and fill bigger roles. They won’t score as many points as last year as they averaged 82.1 points last season, while allowing an average of 72.1 points.

Rams Rebound with Easy Win

The Fordham Rams rebounded from their season-opening loss to Miami Ohio by defeating LIU Brooklyn 81-68 on Monday night. The Rams converted on 45.8% of their shots and held LIU Brooklyn to 37.9% shooting. Freshman forward Ivan Rout was outstanding, sinking 21 points after scoring seven points in the Rams 55-54 season-opening loss to Miami Ohio. The Hawks lost a lot of scoring from last season and it would be a nice boost if Rout can have a productive freshman campaign. Rams’ leading returning from scorer from last season Joseph Chartouny is off to a strong start to the year, scoring 14 and 15 points respectively in his first two games. The junior guard will be leaned on heavily this season after averaging 12.1 points per game last season. Prokop Slanina collected 21 points in the win on Monday night and will play a large role this season after averaging 5.9 points last year.

The Rams lost three of their top four scorers from last season and it could be another rough year after going 13-19 last season. They are averaging 68 points through their first two games, and have conceded 55 and 68 points respectively in two games.

Trends:

The Florida State Seminoles are:

  • 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against A10 opponents.
  • 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games following an ATS win.

The Fordham Rams are:

  • 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games.
  • 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.

I am taking Florida State in this contest. Fordham lost three of their top four scorers last season, and only return one player that averaged double-digits in points. They only averaged 65 points last season and scoring will be a problem this season. They only scored 54 points in a loss to Miami Ohio in their season opener, and Florida State is a much tougher opponent. The Seminoles were able to score 87 points against George Washington in their season opener and held them to 67 points which is a good sign going against a weak Fordham team.
