The Wisconsin Badgers will collide with the Marquette Golden Eagles in an inter-conference state rivalry showdown Sunday afternoon from the Kohl Center in Madison, WI. The Golden Eagles logged a 24-10 record last season, and posted a 65-55 home win gains Purdue in their latest action. The Badgers finished last year with a 23-11 record and crushed McNeese 83-63 in their previous contest. Marquette came away with a 74-69 home win against Wisconsin last season.

Marquette Defeats Purdue to Improve to 2-0

The Marquette Golden Eagles are once again a strong team. They opened the season with an easy 88-53 home win against Loyola Maryland and had a much tougher opponent in their second game which resulted in a 65-55 home win against Purdue. The Golden Eagles offense is led by the dominating Markus Howard. The senior guard is a great talent who won Big East Player of the Year. Howard averaged a remarkable 25 points on a 40% clip from three-point range, and he has scored a combined 57 points on 53% shooting in two games this season.

The Golden Eagles brought in Koby McEwen on a transfer from Utah State. The junior averaged a tremendous 15.6 points in the 2017-2018 season before sitting out last season. McEwen has scored 34 points in two games. Also back is defensive stud Theo John. The 6-foot-9 junior forward averaged 2.1 blocks per game last year, and he has made a remarkable nine blocks in two games this season. John has scored 13 points with 17 rebounds this season.

The Golden Eagles are not ranked in the AP Top 25 and interestingly are placed 12th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings. They were projected to finish in 4th place in the tough Big East in the preseason poll. Marquette averaged 77.3 points last season, ranking them 63rd overall. They allowed an average of 69.5 points, placing them 123rd overall.

Wisconsin Posts Strong Start Including Win vs. St. Mary's

The Wisconsin Badgers will seek their third consecutive win in this intriguing matchup. The Badgers opened the season with a narrow 65-63 overtime home loss to #20 Saint Mary’s and rebounded with a win against Eastern Michigan and an 83-63 home win against McNeese in their latest game. Brad Davison is locked in, sinking 59% of his field goals for an average of 16 points. The junior guard scored 24 points in Wednesday’s win after averaging 10.5 points last year. Nate Reuvers has already seen an increase in his playing time this season and he has responded, posting 15.3 PPG and 8 RPG on the season. The 6-foot- junior forward has one double-double.

Wisconson returns three of their top four scorers from last season which includes D’Mitrik Trice and Kobe King who is questionable for this one with a leg injury. King has scored a combined 24 points in two games

The Badgers are currently ranked at 50th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they were selected to finish 6th in the Big Ten in the preseason poll. Wisconsin is averaging 70.3 points through three games, placing them 228th in the country. The Badgers are a strong defensive team, and they are limiting opponents to 60 points, good for 74th in all of D1.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Marquette in this one. Marquette is a terrific team loaded with talent. They defeated Purdue by 10 points in their latest action, and have limited their two opponents to 53 and 55 points respectively. The Golden Eagles feature the best player in the Big East in Markus Howard who has the ability to take over a game. Howard has scored a combined 56 points in two games this season.

Furthermore, while Wisconsin is also a good team, I think they will be overmatched in this game. They failed to score more than 65 points in two of their first three games, and Marquette has enough offensive talent to solve their defense.

Prediction: Marquette Golden Eagles

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

This contest should evolve into a lower scoring game. Wisconsin plays at a slower pace as they stand 313th in the country with only 67.9 possessions per game, and they are on their home court where they usually defend well. The under is also 10-3 in their last 13 games following an ATS loss.

In addition, Marquette is playing spectacular defense. They just limited Purdue to 55 points on a 34% clip from the field, and Wisconsin is only shooting 44% as a team in three games. The under is 8-2 in the Golden Eagles’ last 10 games overall and that trend should prevail in this one.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The over on the Marquette team total offered on PointsBet is a great option. Marquette will attempt a ton of three’s. They are averaging 24 three-point attempts per game and the Badgers three-point defense has been an issue early. Opponents are shooting a stellar 39.7% from beyond the arc against Wisconsin this season, placing them down at 317th in the country.

Prediction: Marquette Team Total Over

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Wisconsin on the halftime line. Marquette has been a second-half team early this season. They are only averaging 34.5 points in the first half compared to a sizzling 42 points in the second half. The Golden Eagles defense has been outstanding in the second half as well where they are holding opponents to only 27.5 points.

Prediction: Wisconsin Badgers
