The Alabama Crimson Tide hosts Furman Tuesday night in college basketball action. Furman is off to a 4-0 start while Alabama is 1-2. These two haven't played in recent years. Alabama is a 3.5 point favorite here. Tipoff is at 8:00 p.m. ET at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Furman wins 4 straight

The Furman Paladins are off to a pretty clean start, They are 4-0 on the year and they have a quality win under their belt in beating Loyola of Illinois by the score of 87-63. More recently, they beat up on Division II Southern Wesleyan 83-61. Sophomore Noah Gurley led Furman with 25 points, shooting 10-for-10 from the field. Jordan Lyons added 11 points while Jaylon Slawson and Clay Mounce added 10 points each. The Paladins shot 54 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three.

They clock in at No. 70 in the latest Kenpom rankings. Not on the strength of this win, but in some quality wins over the likes of Loyola. They pounded Loyola earlier this year 87-63. Lyons had 24 points and Mounce added 22 points. Slawson poured in 14 points. They followed that up by pounding Charleston Southern 91-47. While Alabama has struggled out the blocks, this one won't be so easy.

Alabama falls to Rhode Island

Alabama has gotten off to a rough start. They are 1-2 with losses to Ivy League foe Pennsylvania and Atlantic 10 opponent Rhode Island. Rhode Island beat up on the Crimson Tide by a score of 93-79. Alabama got worked in the first half, falling behind by 22 points. They came back to cut it to 5 in the second half, but couldn't get any closer. The Rams closed them out with a 12-0 run to win easily.

Freshman Javian Davis has been a bright spot so far, averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.SophomoreKira Lewis Jr. will be leaned on heavily. He was selected to the preseason all-SEC team. He leads the team in scoring with 22.3 ppg as well as assists with 5.3 per game. He also gets 2 steals per game and shoots 39 percent from three-point range. He is also second in rebounding with 6.3 per game. Jaden Shackelford averages 12 ppg while juniors John Petty Jr. is averaging 9.0 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds a game.

Insiders Status:

Take the Crimson Tide giving up the points. This is a tricky one. Furman is off to a 4-0 start, but they really haven't beaten anyone of note aside from Loyola but Loyola just lost to St. Joe's. There other three wins were against much lesser competition. In other words, we don't know quote yet what Furman is. Similarly, we don't know what Alabama is yet either. They have lost twice, but made a nice comeback against Rhode Island before falling short. They also lost to a good Penn team by one. But what they do have is some top talent in Lewis, who is one of the best players in the country, Give me the team with the best player on the floor on his home court.

Prediction: Alabama -3.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Take the under. The Paladins have been racking up the points but they face a much tougher defense than they've faced in Alabama. Furman also plays well on the defensive end, so I see this as a game where the defenses impose their will and keep the score close and low. The under is 8-2 in the Paladins last 10 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points and 7-2 in their last 9 games against the Southeastern Conference. Further, the under is 6-1 in the Crimson Tide's last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 and 7-2 in their last 9 games following an against the spread loss.

Prediction: Under
