The Furman Paladins are off to a pretty clean start, They are 4-0 on the year and they have a quality win under their belt in beating Loyola of Illinois by the score of 87-63. More recently, they beat up on Division II Southern Wesleyan 83-61. Sophomore Noah Gurley led Furman with 25 points, shooting 10-for-10 from the field. Jordan Lyons added 11 points while Jaylon Slawson and Clay Mounce added 10 points each. They clock in at No. 70 in the latest Kenpom rankings. Not on the strength of this win, but in some quality wins over the likes of Loyola. They pounded Loyola earlier this year 87-63. Lyons had 24 points and Mounce added 22 points. Slawson poured in 14 points. They followed that up by pounding Charleston Southern 91-47. While Alabama has struggled out the blocks, this one won't be so easy.
Alabama falls to Rhode Island
Alabama has gotten off to a rough start. They are 1-2 with losses to Ivy League foe Pennsylvania and Atlantic 10 opponent Rhode Island. Rhode Island beat up on the Crimson Tide by a score of 93-79. Alabama got worked in the first half, falling behind by 22 points. They came back to cut it to 5 in the second half, but couldn't get any closer. The Rams closed them out with a 12-0 run to win easily.Freshman Javian Davis has been a bright spot so far, averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.SophomoreKira Lewis Jr. will be leaned on heavily. He was selected to the preseason all-SEC team. He leads the team in scoring with 22.3 ppg as well as assists with 5.3 per game. He also gets 2 steals per game and shoots 39 percent from three-point range. He is also second in rebounding with 6.3 per game. Jaden Shackelford averages 12 ppg while juniors John Petty Jr. is averaging 9.0 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds a game.
