The Dayton Flyers will host the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks in non-conference play Tuesday night from the University of Dayton Arena. The Mavericks are coming off an 80-65 road loss to Colorado State, and the Flyers posted a decisive 90-61 home win against Charleston Southern in their latest contest.

Nebraska Omaha's Two Game Winning Streak Ends

The Nebraska Omaha Mavericks will resume a three-game road trip in this one. They had a two-game winning streak snapped in an 80-65 road loss to Colorado State in their latest action on Wednesday night. The Mavericks are led by JT Gibson. The senior guard will attempt several shots per game and he is having success, logging a 46% clip from the field for an average of 15.8 points after leading the Mavericks in scoring last season.

Matt Pile has been a force, posting at least a 70% efficiency from the field in three consecutive games. The junior forward uses his 6-foot-8 frame to his advantage with an average of 9.8 rebounds along with 12.3 points. Ayo Akinwole has reached double-digits in points in three of four games and is averaging 12.3 points on 62% shooting. The Mavericks won the only game that had them favorites and also defeated non-D1 opponent Midland Lutheran. They lost in both games that had them as an underdog.

Nebraska Omaha is currently placed at 171st overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They are scoring an average of 70.2 points, placing them 223rd in the country. The Mavericks are playing effective defense, holding opponents to 65.5 points, positioning them 143rd overall.

Dayton Notches Two Wins in Light Schedule

The Dayton Flyers have enjoyed a light schedule, playing only two games. Dayton tallied an uninspiring 86-81 home win against Indiana State in their season opener, followed by an easy 90-61 home win against Charleston Southern on Saturday in a game that had the Flyers as 19.5 point favorites. Dayton returns a good portion of last year’s roster on a team that went 21-12.

Watch out for Obi Toppin as he has been a force through two games, accumulating a combined 50 points and 23 rebounds for the double-double in both games. The 6-foot-9 sophomore forward is coming off a terrific freshman season and he should post big numbers. Jalen Crutcher should also be in store for a great year. The junior guard is a great playmaker and has collected 13 assists along with 26 points in two games. Ryan Mikesell is playing well, sinking 10 of 18 field goals for an average of 13 points in two games.

The Flyers are currently placed at 58th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they should be in the hunt for the top spot in the A10 this year. Dayton has been very accurate from the field in their two games. Last season they averaged 72.9 points, and they should increase that figure this season. They conceded an average of only 66 points last season.

Insiders Status:

I am taking the points with Nebraska Omaha. The Mavericks have enough talent to keep this one within reach. They are playing outstanding defensively, limiting opponents to 37.5% shooting in their four games played on the season. They won’t completely stifle a strong-shooting Dayton team, but I expect them to at least limit their production.

Furthermore, I big reason I expect Nebraska Omaha to stay in this game is their offense. Dayton is not playing solid defense right now. Opponents to shooting 44.1% against them, which places them down at 246th overall in field goal defense. The Mavericks have three players averaging at least 12 points and two of their top three scorers feature a field goal percentage above 60.

Prediction: Nebraska Omaha Mavericks

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I recommend a play on the over. Dayton features several talented scorers that can all take over a game. The Flyers are shooting a dazzling 54.5% as a team and scored over 80 points in both of their games. The over is a perfect 9-0 in the Flyers’ last nine non-conference games.

In addition, Dayton surrendered 81 points to Indiana State in their season opener, and Nebraska Omaha has the scoring depth to do solid damage as well. The over is 4-0- in the Mavericks’ last four games following a straight-up loss.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

I am selecting the over on the Nebraska-Omaha team total which can be found on PointsBet. The Mavericks top two scorers in JT Gibson and Ayo Akinwole are shooting 42% and 60% respectively from beyond the arc. The Flyers will give up three’s as opponents are shooting 41.9% from deep against them. Also, the Mavericks attempted 27 three’s in their latest game,  and I expect them to toss up several in this game with success.

Prediction: Nebraska Omaha Team Total Over

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

I am sticking with the over on the halftime total considering both teams’ offensive performance. Nebraska Omaha has fared well in the first half, averaging a decent 35 points which places them in the top third of the country. Dayton is tremendous in the first half where they stand 21st overall with an average of 42 points on the season.

Prediction: Over
