The USC Trojans play host to the Pepperdine Waves Tuesday in college basketball action. USC is 4-0 on the year while Pepperdine is 3-1. The last time these two Southern California schools met was in 2016, when USC won easily. The Trojans are a 10.5 point favorite this time out. Tipoff is at 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

Pepperdine has won 3 straight

The Pepperdine Waves have won their last three games to improve to 3-1, including two on the road. A win here would give them their first four-game win streak since 2016. They Waves have already beaten two 2019 NCAA Tournament teams -- UC Irvine and Abilene Christian. They also won at CSU Northridge by the score of 94-82. But this is their toughest test.

Colbey Ross leads the Waves with 17 points and 8.3 assists per game. he is second in school history in assists. Ross made the preseason West Coast Conference team along with teammate Kessler Edwards. Edwards is averaging 17.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Kameron Edwards has averaged 21 points over this win streak. This is their third straight road game.

Trojans get physical with Nevada

USC is off to a great start at 4-0. Last Saturday they had their best win of the season, beating Nevada 76-66 at Nevada.Nick Rakocevic scored 24 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Daniel Utomi added 12 points while Elijah Weaver tossed in 11 points in the game.USC pounded Nevada on the glass, outrebounding them 42-37. More importantly, they outscored Nevada 42-10 in the paint. Rakocevic made 10 of 15 shots from the field. Onyeka Okongwu was a force inside, hauling in 11 rebounds. For his efforts, Rakocevic was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week.

"We thought our interior players were a little more experienced and a little better players overall," USC head coach Andy Enfield said, reported the Trojans web site. "We thought we really needed to dominate the paint and we did. Give our three bigs credit. They all played very good basketball." Nevada shot only 30 percent from 3-point land an 33 percent overall.

Take the Trojans giving up the points. The Pepperdine Waves are a dangerous team and they will do some damage this year in the West Coast Conference. But they are over matched here against a very good USC team. USC hasn't cracked the top 25 yet, but received votes and another win might push them into the top 25. USC just has too many bigs. They are very physical and beat teams in the paint. The Waves don't really have the size or physicality to match them. USC home too, which gives them an added advantage. I think the Waves will keep it close, but USC will wear them down and cover.

Prediction: USC -10.5

Take the under here. The Waves like to push the ball with their stellar guard Colbey Ross. Plus they have have some big time scorers on this team. But I think USC, at home, will be able to slow it down and impose their will. I look for this game to be fairly low scoring, with USC holding the Waves in the 60s. The under is 4-0 in Trojans last 4 overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games against a team with a road winning percentage of greater than .600. Further, the under is 19-7 in the Trojans last 26 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.
