Two great mid-major programs meet on Saturday, Nov. 26. East Carolina has a record of 5-1 this season, and the ODU Monarchs have a record of 3-3 as they are coming off of a loss to Davidson earlier this week. The two teams look for a key non-conferee victory early in the season. The tip-off between these two teams is slated for 7 P.M. EST.

East Carolina jumps out to 5 wins

The Pirates have a record of 5-1 this season as they have defeated similar mid-major programs around the country. The only loss for East Carolina this season has been a 4-point loss to Indiana State by a final score of 79-75. The Pirates are coming off a win over the University of Texas-Arlington by a final score of 79-65.

East Carolina led for the majority of the game against the Mavericks. The Mavericks' largest lead was only four points in the game as the Pirates dominated from the jump. The Pirates shot 45.6% from the field and the 3-point ball was their friend. The Pirates shot 9-for-27 from behind the 3-point arc. They out-rebounded the Mavericks, too.

East Carolina’s Javon Small finished with 18 points against the Mavericks. Small is averaging 20.8 points per game which leads the team in points. “I like what we did in the second half as well. I don’t think we closed the game out as well as we would’ve liked to, just in terms of a defensive standpoint. But the defense set the tone for us in the first half. We held them in the low 30s percentage-wise and that’s still going to be what sparks us, and I thought it sparked our offense, particularly in the second half,” head coach Michael Schwartz said to the media following the game against Arlington.

The Pirates are averaging 79.3 points per game which ranks 84th in the nation. East Carolina is shooting 44% from the field which ranks them 203rd in the nation. They are also hitting 36% of their shots from behind the 3-point arc. That mark puts them at 101st in the country. On defense, the Pirates are allowing 42.5% of their opposition’s shots to be made, which marks 192nd in the country. Opposing teams are hauling in 27.7 rebounds per game which is very low as the Pirates are ranked 47th in the country.
