The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs head on the road to clash with the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs resumed their strong play with a win against UL Monroe last time out. The Wolfpack posted a win against Texas Southern in their latest bout.
LA Tech Records Another Dominating Win
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are targeting a fifth consecutive win. They lost the season opener to Alabama of the SEC and have countered with four straight victories. The last three occurred in blowouts. LA Tech was tabbed 16.5 point favorites in Wednesday’s 96-74 home win against UL Monroe. The Bulldogs have covered in two of their four games that had a spread.
Kenneth Lofton Jr. continues to shine. The freshman forward tallied another double-double in Wednesday’s victory and now has three on the year. Lofton Jr. is sporting an average of 14.3 PPG and 10.2 RPG. Keaston Willis is a threat from three-point range and has connected on 50% of his field goals in three straight performances. The sophomore guard owns an average of 14.6 PPG. Amori Archibald is also thriving. The senior guard is averaging 12.4 PPG on a dazzling 50% mark from the field.
The Bulldogs are placed 100th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They are expected to be one of the top squads in the C-USA. LA Tech is averaging a stellar 80.8 points on the season, ranking them 59th in DI. They are allowing an average of 72 points, positioning them 250th in the country.
NC State Rebounds with Victory against Texas Southern
The NC State Wolfpack enters this one well-rested. They were large 13 point favorites in a 65-57 win against Texas Southern last Sunday. The Wolfpack have enjoyed an easy schedule with the exception of the bout against Oklahoma State which they lost by a narrow 74-68 score. NC State has yet to cover the spread in their five games.
Dereon Seabron is dominating the opposition. The sophomore guard has tallied at least 20 points in three consecutive performances and already has four double-doubles. Seabron is sporting an average of 20.6 PPG and 10.2 RPG. Jericole Hellems is an established scoring threat. The senior forward is struggling in the early going, shooting below 40% in all but one game, and enters with an average of 11.6 PPG. Casey Morsell has also been quiet recently. The junior guard arrived on a transfer from ACC foe Virginia and has tallied an average of 11.6 PPG on 41.5% shooting.
The Wolfpack are currently ranked 65th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They are not expected to be a contender in the tough ACC. NC State is averaging 75.4 points on the season, placing them 129th in the country. The defense has been solid. They are limiting opponents to only 68 points, good for 167th overall.
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
The Wolfpack feature better offensive and defensive adjusted efficiency ratings than the Bulldogs and I expect a convincing win. It’s been a very easy schedule for LA Tech so far. The only difficult opponent they battled was Alabama and it resulted in an ugly 93-64 defeat.
Furthermore, the Wolfpack just beat Texas Southern by double-digits and their only defeat came against a good Oklahoma State team. LA Tech will give up points. They had no answer for Alabama and gave up 74 to UL Monroe in their previous game. NC State has a good player in Jericole Hellems. The senior is slumping a bit but is overdue for a breakout game.
Full-Game Total Pick
This one should go over. These teams will play at a reasonably quick pace. LA Tech is averaging 74 possessions per game, ranking them 76th in pace. They have netted at least 80 points in three consecutive games. The over is also 4-0 on the Bulldogs’ last four games.
In addition, the Wolfpack have fared well against the easier foes this season. They accumulated 88 against Bucknell and 77 against Colgate. I expect a solid output against a LA Tech team that is ranked 197th in field goal defense.
