College Basketball action on Friday evening and the Ivy League will grapple with the Atlantic 10 as the Dartmouth Big Green takes on the Davidson Wildcats at John M. Belk Arena in Davidson, North Carolina. The Big Green are off a 114-39 win over Newbury College, while the Wildcats are off an 83-63 home win over Cleveland State.
Big Green Crushes NewBury College
The Dartmouth Big Green have finished at 7-020 in each of the last two seasons, so they were looking to get off to a good start this year, and they have. Dartmouth enters this game off a 114-39 win over Newbury College, but the bad news is that they will not be facing a real college team. The Big Green was a solid defensive club last year, and they started well in their opener as they allowed just 39 points on 22.9% shooting overall, including only 22.3% from long range. Their task will get much tougher in this one as Davidson usually has a high-scoring offense.

The offense had its struggles last year as they ranked 299th in the nation in scoring, putting up 68.2 ppg. The offense looked good in their opener, especially from long range where they mad 22 of their 46 attempts. They set a team record for threes made in a game. Brandon Barry led the attack with 26 points, and he was 8/10 from long range. James Foye had a nice game with 18 points and eight boards, while Adrease Jackson (14), Wes Slajchert (12) and Chris Knight (11) all scored in double figures as well.
Wildcats Claw Their Way Through The Vikings
The Davidson Wildcats could be in line for a solid season. Last year, they went 21-12, including 13-5 in the Atlantic 10 and they have three starters back from that team. They did lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament and will be looking for a better showing this year. The Wildcats started their season with a solid 83-63 home win over Cleveland State, despite that they didn’t shoot the ball well. The Wildcats hit just 41.7% of their shots overall, including 36.1% from long range. That’s a far cry from the 48% shooting they put up last year, which was 30th in the nation.

Leading their attack in the game was Kellan Grady, who had 24 points after ranking 2nd on the team in scoring last year with 18.0 ppg. Jon Axel Gudmundsson was 2nd against the Vikings with 16 points, while also grabbing seven boards. Luka Brajkovic (10 points) and Luke Frampton (10) also scored in double figures for the Wildcats. The defense was 58th in the nation in points allowed at 67.9 ppg, and they started well this year. The Vikings did hit 46.7% of their shots overall, including 50% of their shots from long range, but they also scored just 63 points.
- 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
- 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win
- 17-35-1 ATS in their last 53 non-conference games
- 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games following a straight up win
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Wildcats are the play in this one. Dartmouth had a good game in their opener, but they are still not a very good team, and the Wildcats will be in the NCAA Tournament this year. Davidson has an offense that can do damage against the Big Green, while their defense should have another good outing as well. Look for the Wildcats to post their 2nd 20 point win of the young season.
Prediction: Davidson -19
Full-Game Total Pick
I will look for this game to go Under the total. The Big Green had an offensive explosion in their opener, but that will; not be the case in this one as Davidson is a far better defensive team that Newbury College. The Wildcats are a good offensive team, but Dartmouth played good defense last year and that is the strength of their team. 75-53 Davidson sounds about right.
Prediction: Under 148
