The Saint Louis Billikens will host the Southern Illinois Salukis in non-conference action Sunday afternoon from the Chaifetz Arena. The Salukis tallied a 64-48 home win against NC Central in their latest tilt, and the Billikens registered a 64-54 road win against Boston College in their previous game. The Salukis tallied a 61-56 home win against the Billikens last season.

Southern Illinois Rebounds from Four Game Slide

The Southern Illinois Salukis will be looking to win consecutive games for the first time since opening the season with two victories. They put an end to a four-game losing streak with a 64-48 home win against NC Central on Tuesday in a matchup that had the Salukis favored by eight points.Aaron Cook has been the Salukis’ top player this season. The senior guard posted 16 points in Tuesday’s victory and he has shot at least 50% in four out of his last five games. Cook is averaging 15 points on 55% shooting.

Marcus Domask is shooting a solid 40% from three-point territory. The freshman forward scored 18 points against NC Central, and he is second in team scoring with 13 PPG on a 50% clip from the field. Barret Benson is using his 6-foot-10 frame to his advantage underneath the bucket with a dazzling 67.9% field goal efficiency. The senior center is averaging 12.7 points and a team-leading five rebounds per game.

The Salukis are currently positioned 230th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They lost 79-66 to Murray State in their lone true road game. Southern Illinois is having trouble in the offensive end and they are currently averaging 63.4 points, ranking them 313th overall. They are relying on their defense, conceding an average of only 61.1 points, good for 51st in the country.

Saint Louis Defense Leads to Third Straight Win

The Saint Louis Billikens continue to thrive. They have earned three consecutive wins behind stifling defensive play which included a convincing 64-54 road win against Boston College in a tilt that had Saint Louis as two-point dogs. Their lone defeat was an 88-63 road loss to a ranked Seton Hall team.

Jordan Goodwin is locked in, collecting two straight double-doubles which included 20 points and 14 boards in the win against Boston College. The junior guard is having a stellar season, sporting an average of 16.1 PPG and 9.1 RPG.

Hasahn French is another outstanding defensive player who is a force underneath the bucket. The junior forward has three double-doubles on the season and is averaging 14.4 PPG and 10.6 RPG. Gibson Jimerson is playing well. The freshman guard scored 25 points in a win against High Point earlier this month and is posting an average of 10.1 points on 44% shooting.

The Billikens are currently positioned at 109th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings. They feature a 5-1 home record and are scoring an average of 72.7 points, ranking them 171st overall. Saint Louis is an elite defensive team that is limiting opponents to 63.4 points, placing them 88th in DI.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Saint Louis in this clash. Saint Louis is red-hot, winning three straight and their only loss of the season was against #12 Seton Hall. They were underdogs in their last two games and came away with the victory. This is a good matchup for the Billikens against a struggling offense. Southern Illinois has netted 66 or fewer points in five consecutive games and the Billikens continue to play terrific defense.

Furthermore, the Salukis are having trouble, losing four out of their last five games overall, and each of their last three defeats occurred by at least nine points. They will have trouble generating points against the Saint Louis defense.

Prediction: Saint Louis

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect a low scoring clash. The Billikens are consistently neutralizing opponents. They have limited their opposition to 55 or fewer points in three consecutive games and the Salukis are slumping offensively. Also, the under is 10-3 in the Salukis’ last 13 games overall.

In addition, the Salukis’ defense is also their top strength as a team. They are limiting opponents to 38.9% shooting, and have allowed 61 or fewer points in five out of their seven games on the season. The under is 7-3 in the Billikens’ last 10 games following a straight-up win.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The under on the Southern Illinois team total is a solid option. Saint Louis is limiting opponents to only 37.8% shooting from the field this season. The Salukis are struggling offensively and they will have a very difficult time in this game. They own a subpar 44.8% team field goal percentage and they are only averaging 65 possessions per game as well which places them 344th in D1.

Prediction: Southern Illinois Team Total Under

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

I am sticking with the under on the halftime line. Saint Louis has been one of the best defensive teams in all of Division I in the first half. They are holding opponents to an average of 24 points in the first half in their last three games. The Salukis are only averaging 30.5 points in the opening half while Saint Louis has only averaged 26.7 points in their last three games in the first half.

Prediction: Under
