Saturday on the college hardwood and we will see the Pac 12 Conference square off with the Moutain West Conference as the Stanford Cardinal take on the San Jose State Spartans at Provident Credit Union Event Center in San Jose, California. Stanford enters this game at 8-1 on the year while the Spartans enter at 3-7.

Stanford Bounces Back From First Loss

The Stanford Cardinal got off to a strong 7-0 start before falling by one point to Butler. Stanford was then able to quickly bounce back as they beat North Carolina Wilmington by a score of 72-54 in their next game. The defense has been very tough for the Cardinal in the early going and they have now allowed 55 points or less in four of their last five games and in five of their nine games overall so far. The defense could have a good showing in this one as they will be facing a San Jose State team that ranks 313th in the nation in scoring. The Seahawks shot just 40% from the field overall, but they were 10/21 (48%) from long range in the Stanford win.

The Cardinal comes in ranked 14th in points allowed at 57.7 ppg, 86th in defensive FG% at 39.7% and 122nd in three-point defense at 31.1%. The offense has been solid and they will face a San Jose State team that has been one of the worst defensive teams in the nation. On offense, Stanford enters this game ranked 103rd in the nation in scoring at 75.6 ppg, 10th in field goal percentage at 50.4%, 13th in three-point shooting at 41.2% and 125th in free-throw shooting at 71.4%. The Cardinal shot 52% from the field overall against the Seahawks by they were just 8/25 (32%) from long range. Leading their attack was Oscar Da Silva (16.6 ppg), who had 26 points while Spencer Jones (11.0 ppg) had 11.

Sparty Falls Short Against The Aztecs

It has been a slow start for the Spartans who enter this game at just 3-7 on the year. The Spartans have really struggled of late as they enter this game having lost their last five games in a row and they have averaged just 57 ppg over their last four. This is a pathetic offensive team as you can see from the rankings below. They are ranked 300th or lower in all four major categories. this team would have issues through the ball in the ocean even if they were just 10 feet from it. That is not good news as they are against to face a very good defensive team in the Cardinal. San Jose State is off of a very tough 59-57 loss to San Diego State in their last game and leading the attack was Seneca Knight (12.6 ppg), who had 15 while Brae Ivey (5.6 ppg) had 13.

Sparty shot just 38% from the field overall, including just 31% (8/26) from long range in the contest. The big difference was that they were outscored 14-7 at the charity stripe. The defense has been a mess all year but the Aztec offense has not been good and the Spartans had clearly their best defensive effort of the year so far. The Aztecs shot just 32% from the floor overall, including just 31% (5/16) from long range. The Spartans enter this game ranked 313th in the nation in scoring at 64.7 ppg, 319th in field goal percentage at 39.7%, 336th in three-point shooting at 37.4% and 301st in free-throw shooting at 65.1%. On the defensive end of the floor, they are ranked 309th in points allowed at 76.3 ppg, 272nd in defensive FG% at 44.8% and 175th in three-point defense at 32.3%.

Insiders Status:

I have to go with the Cardinal in this one as the Spartans are a horrible team. San Jose played a close game against the Aztecs but that is a team that does not blow many teams out. The Cardinal will have no problem doing that here. Stanford has massive edges at both ends of the court as they are 104tyh in scoring (75.6 ppg) and 14th in points allowed (57.7 ppg), while Sparty ranks n313th in scoring (64.7 ppg) and 309th in points allowed (76.3). San Jose does not have enough offense or defense to hang in this one against a Stanford team that is 7-2 ATS this year.

Prediction: Stanford -17

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Cardinal will get their fair share of points in this one and they could very well hit 80 points, but I do not see the Spartans topping 50. San Jose's offense is brutal and they will be facing a Stanford team that is 14th in the nation in points allowed at 57.7 ppg. The Spartans have averaged just 57.0 ppg over their last four games and this game is on a neutral court which they are not used to playing on. Stanford's pace of play ranks 229th in the nation and while the Spartans are 83rd in pace of play, it has not helped their offense at all. The Under is 12-3 in Stanford's last 15 games overall and 5-1 in San Jose State's last six games following a straight-up loss. Take the Under in this one.

Prediction: Under 135
