Milwaukee will play its first game in nine days when it travels to Iowa for a match-up against Drake on Tuesday night. The Panthers are 5-3 on the season, but they have lost two of their last three games. The Bulldogs will have had six days in between their last game when they take the court on Tuesday. They are off to a 6-2 start this year, having only lost road games to Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio).

Milwaukee coming off extended break

Milwaukee opened the season with a 10-point win against Concordia before playing one of the wackiest college basketball games of the young season. The Panthers hosted Western Michigan on Nov. 9, falling 115-110 in three overtimes. The Broncos’ Michael Flowers hit game-tying three in the final seconds of regulation, overtime and double overtime. Milwaukee responded with wins against Wisconsin-Lutheran, UMKC and North Dakota. The Panthers’ second loss of the season came at home in a six-point decision against Rice. Their last two games have been a win against Morgan State and a loss on the road against George Washington.

The Panthers are led by junior guard Te’Jon Lucas, who is scoring 15.0 points per game and pulling down 5.3 rebounds per game. He is 10 of 30 from the 3-point line and is shooting 42 percent from the floor. Senior guard Darius Roy is adding 14.6 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per outing. He is also 13 of 37 from downtown. Junior guard Josh Thomas has come off the bench in six of Milwaukee’s eight games, scoring 12.8 points per game. He is the best shooter on the team, connecting on 18 of 45 attempts from distance. Senior guard DeAndre Abram is the Panthers’ fourth scorer in double figures, averaging 10.6 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per contest.

Drake led by trio of guards

Drake is off to a 6-2 start on the season. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 31-point win against Kennesaw State at home. One of their two losses came in the second game of the year—an 81-59 loss on the road against Cincinnati. They responded with a trio of wins against UMKC, Simpson College and Lehigh. Their second loss of the season was an eight-point loss on the road against Miami (Ohio). Drake has answered with wins in its last two games. The Bulldogs earned a three-point home win against Northeastern and won by 10 points on the road against Murray State the last time out.

The Bulldogs are led by a trio of guards who are all averaging double figures in the scoring column. Senior guard Anthony Murphy is the leading scorer with 11.0 points per game and he adds 5.5 rebounds per game. Murphy is 9 of 28 from beyond the 3-point line and is 15 of 18 from the charity stripe. Sophomore guard Roman Penn is scoring 10.3 points per game and is leading the team with 6.0 assists per game. He is an efficient 3-point shooter, connecting on 5 of 11 attempts. Sophomore guard D.J. Wilkins is adding 10.3 points per game as well, including a 16 of 39 mark from distance. The team’s leading rebounder is sophomore guard Garrett Sturtz, who is grabbing 6.1 boards per outing. Junior guard Jonah Jackson is 14 of 34 from downtown off the bench.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Drake is the better team with more balance and depth in this contest. Milwaukee has struggled on the road this season, so there is no reason to expect the Panthers to play well in this game. The Bulldogs come into this game with some momentum after picking up a quality road win against Murray State. They have yet to lose a game within their home confines this season, so the home-road splits are heavily in the Bulldogs’ favor.

Prediction: Drake -10.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

These teams play opposite styles of basketball. Drake looks to slow the game down and play solid defense. Milwaukee wants to speed things up and connect on quick shots. The Bulldogs are likely going to win the tempo battle at home. The Panthers are inefficient on offense, ranking No. 276 in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency ratings, despite their up-tempo style. I like this game to go under the total.

Prediction: Under 131
