The Oakland Golden Grizzlies will travel to Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday afternoon to take on the IUPUI Jaguars in a Horizon League matchup. The Golden Grizzlies are 6-2 (1-0) thus far and are riding a four-game winning streak and are coming off an 81-77 road win over the UIC Flames on Thursday. The Jaguars are 1-6 (0-1) to begin the year and are coming off a 69-45 home loss to the Detroit Mercy Titans on Thursday.

These teams have started the season on two completely different levels so it will be interesting to see how they are able to play here. Let’s take a deeper dive into Oakland and IUPUI to determine where our action should be.

Cain Stepping Up

Senior forward Jamal Cain has been leading the Oakland Golden Grizzlies this season as he is playing 37 minutes and averaging 22.1 points, 11 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 2.4 steals per game. He has been shooting decently well as he is shooting 55.4 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from distance, and 82.8 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the UIC Flames, Cain finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block, and four turnovers in 39 minutes on the court.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have been struggling a bit on the defensive side of the court as they are allowing 68 points per game this season. In their previous game against the UIC Flames, they gave up 77 points on 33-of-75 (44 percent) for the day, 9-of-35 (25.7 percent) from deep, and seven trips to the free-throw line.

To The Maxwell

The IUPUI Jaguars are dependent on the play of senior guard B.J. Maxwell as he is averaging 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.7 steals in 30.2 minutes per game. He needs to improve on his shot as he is 33.3 percent from the floor, 25.8 percent from the three-point line, and 77.3 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Detroit Mercy Titans, Maxwell finished playing 29 minutes and had 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, and six turnovers.

The IUPUI Jaguars have been a pretty good defensive program to begin the regular season as they are giving up 59.1 points per game. In their previous game against the Detroit Mercy Titans, they allowed 69 points on 24-of-51 (47.1 percent) overall, 10-of-26 (38.5 percent) from distance, and 14 free-throw shots.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The defense of the Oakland Golden Grizzlies have been struggling too much for the program to step up and cover the spread. The Golden Grizzlies are allowing 74 points in their previous five games while the Jaguars are giving up 59.6 points in that same stretch of games. The underdog has covered in six of the previous seven games against one another so go with the IUPUI Jaguars getting 14.5 points in this game.

Prediction: IUPUI Jaguars +14.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The under is the better play because neither team is a high-scoring offense as Oakland is scoring 68.6 points on 43.4 percent from the floor while IUPUI is averaging 50.9 points and shooting 38.1 percent from the field thus far. The Jaguars are not having a dependable scorer as Maxwell is leading the way as he is averaging 12.2 points per game. Go with UNDER 130.5 POINTS in this game as it seems to be the better play.

Prediction: UNDER 130.5
