The Georgetown Hoyas will travel to Texas to take on the Southern Methodist Mustangs in inter-conference play Saturday night from the Moody Coliseum. The Hoyas are coming off an 81-74 road win over Oklahoma State, and the Mustangs earned an easy 77-51 home win against Northwestern State on Tuesday night. The Mustangs tallied an 81-73 road win over Georgetown last season.

Hoyas Stun Oklahoma State

The Georgetown Hoyas enter this one with momentum. They had lost two straight to Duke and UNC Greensboro and countered with an 81-74 upset road win against Oklahoma State on Wednesday in a tilt that had the Hoyas tagged as 11 point dogs. The Hoyas' top strength is their offense.

Omer Yurtseven continues to shine and he enters this one sporting an average of 16 PPG and 9.6 RPG. The seven-foot center has earned four double-doubles on the season and has reached 20 points twice this season. Mac McClung has the ability to take over a game which was evident in his 33 point effort in Wednesday’s big win. The sophomore guard is only shooting 42.2% on the season, and he stands second in team scoring with 14.5 PPG. James Akinjo is struggling with his shot, recording a field goal percentage below 39% in each of his last four games. The sophomore guard is logging 13.4 PPG.

The Hoyas are ranked 55th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and they stand at 1-1 on the road. Georgetown is a big threat offensively, and are currently averaging 78 points, placing them 78th overall. They are conceding an average of 74.5 points, placing them 293rd in DI.

SMU Remains Undefeated

The SMU Mustangs remain undefeated on the season. SMU has taken full advantage of a very easy schedule, and this contest will be the toughest opponent they have played so far. The Mustangs were favorites in each game with the exception of their bout against Evansville which the Mustangs won by 59-57 score. SMU’s defense has especially stood out in their perfect start which included an easy 77-51 home win against Northwestern State on Tuesday.

Isiaha Mike leads the way offensively with 15.9 PPG along with 6.9 RPG. The junior forward has eclipsed 20 points twice this season, and he scored 16 points in the Mustangs’ latest action on Tuesday. Kendric Davis has shot at least 50% in three of his four games played this season. The sophomore guard is a great playmaker as he is sporting an average of 7.5 assists accompanied with 15.8 points. Feron Hunt is having a tremendous season, registering three double-doubles and the sophomore forward is averaging 13.3 PPG and 8.4 RPG on the year.

The Mustangs are currently placed 83rd in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings, and they feature a perfect 6-0 home record. SMU is averaging 74.9 points, ranking them 118th overall. They are limiting opponents to 59.6 points, good for 25th in DI.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

I am siding with SMU in this contest. SMU is playing with a ton of confidence and they have yet to lose. Georgetown has been inconsistent and they cannot be trusted after losing to UNC Greensboro on their home court last week. The Hoyas defense has been an issue at times and SMU’s shooting is hot right now. Each of their top four scorers features a field goal percentage of at least 50%.

Furthermore, the Mustangs are also playing terrific defense and I expect them to contain the Hoyas’ scoring. SMU has conceded 58 or fewer points in three consecutive games and while I expect more than 58 points from Georgetown, I don’t see them posting their usual numbers.

Prediction: SMU Mustangs

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I anticipate a low scoring game. Georgetown plays at a quick pace but SMU is only averaging 67 possessions per game which places them near the bottom of the country in pace. I expect SMU to dictate the play on their home court which is why I like the under. The under is also 12-5 in the Mustangs' last 17 home games.

In addition, SMU is neutralizing teams from deep, holding opponents to 28.6% shooting from three-point range which ranks them 60th in DI,  so I am confident the Mustangs can neutralize a Hoyas team that is having success from beyond the arc. The under is 8-2 in the Hoyas' last 10 games following an ATS win and it should convert again.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The over on the SMU team total offered on PointsBet is an attractive option. The Hoyas have surrendered at least 74 points in five out of their last seven games so I like the Mustangs chances. Georgetown conceded 78 points to Central Arkansas, 83 points to Georgia State and SMU definitely has the offensive talent to post similar numbers. They feature four players averaging at least 13 points.

Prediction: SMU Team Total Over

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

I am going with the over on the halftime total. Both teams are very productive in the first half. The Hoyas are averaging a decent 35.5 points in the first half this season. The Mustangs have averaged a remarkable 37 points in the first half in their last three games.

Prediction: Over
