Two top 25 teams go head-to-head as Washington hosts Gonzaga on Sunday. The Washington Huskies are ranked No. 23 in the country with a record of 7-1 while the Gonzaga Bulldogs are ranked No. 9 and are 9-1. Gonzaga has won the last four games between these two, including an 81-79 win last year as Washington covered. Gonzaga is a 2.5 point favorite. Tipoff is Sunday at 7:00 p.m. ET at Hec Ed Arena in Seattle, Washington.

Gonzaga gets back on track

Last year, it took a layup as time expired by Gonzaga's Rui Hachimura, now of the NBA's Washington Wizards, to beat the Huskies 81-79. This year, the game is expected to be equally close. The Bulldogs come in with a record of 9-1 and are ranked No. 9 in the nation. They are coming off a 101-62 thumping of Texas Southern earlier this week. Corey Kispert led the Gonzaga attack with 17 points while Joel Ajayi had 16 points and 9 rebounds with 5 assists. Overall, 7 Bulldogs were in double figures.

Gonzaga has won 9 straight games on the road. They are second in the nation in assists and rebounds, third in free-throw attempts, fifth in scoring margin, and 5th in points per game with 86.2. They are also eighth in rebound margin. Gonzaga's only loss this year came against Michigan, at home. The Wolverines thumped them on Nov. 29 by the score of 82-64. It was in the finals of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas.

Huskies beast Eastern Washington

The Washington Huskies improved to 7-1 with a 90-80 win over Eastern Washington on Wednesday. Quade Green had 20 points and eight assists to lead the Huskies. Jaden McDaniels added 17 points to lead Washington while Nahziah Carter added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Isaiah Stewart added 12 points and six rebounds while Sam Timmins scored 11 points for the Huskies.

Washington has been very good at home with a record of 37-5 under head coach Mike Hopkins. Washington has a big front line and is great protecting the rim. The are 9th in the NCAA in blocks, averaging 6.3 over eight games. They are also 51st in steals with 8.3 per game. As a team, they average 72.9 points per game, which is 158th in the country. They shoot 45.8 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from three.

Rating:

Take Washington in this one. Washington is due to beat Gonzaga. They have lost the last four to them and last year must have really left a sour taste in their mouth as they lost at the buzzer. Last year's Gonzaga team was better than this year's. Plus, the Huskies are home, where they are 37-5 under coach Mike Hopkins. The time is now for the Huskies to pull off the upset. Gonzaga barely survive against Oregon, winning by one. And they got blown out by Michigan. I think these teams are evenly matched and by the end of the week, their rankings will be a lot closer than 9 and 23. Take the home 'Dog.

Prediction: Washington +2.5
