UNC Wilmington heads to James Madison to take on the Dukes in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Tuesday night. The Dukes have had their last two games postponed due to an outbreak of Mumps in the athletic program and will be their first game since a 79-73 win over Towson in early February. The Dukes are 3-9 in the CAA and 7-18 overall, but they had been playing better before the outbreak of Mumps occurred.
Meanwhile, UNC Wilmington who has been on of the better teams in the CAA over the last decade is struggling this year at only 5-8 in conference and 8-17 overall. They are coming off of a win, however, beating Hofstra 90-70 back on Saturday. It helped end a three game losing streak, which included a 107-100 overtime loss to Northeastern.
Seahawks defeat Hofstra
It’s been a down year for UNC Wilmington, but they notched a nice win on Saturday, beating Hoftstra 90-70. Hofstra had been 8-5 in conference, while the Seahawks sat at only 4-8, but they looked liked the much better team. They had a five-point halftime lead and then poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Pride 48-33 to win going away.
The Seahawks were led by junior Devontae Cook, who is in the top 5 in the nation in rebounding. He’s averaging 17.5 points and 13.4 boards per game, but he did those one better on Saturday. He was 11 of 13 from the field and finished with 25 points and 16 boards, leading them to the easy victory.
James Madison finally plays
James Madison hasn’t played since February 3rd, which resulted in a win 79-73 over Towson. They have two games in the meantime postponed due to the Mumps outbreak in their athletic program, and one of those two games was against UNC Wilmington, their opponent on Tuesday. They had been playing better in recent games despite the lousy record this year. And in the win over Towson, they overcame a six-point halftime lead to win 79-73.
In the win, the Dukes were led by junior guard Stuckey Mosley, who had an absolutely monster game. He finished with 35 points on 12 of 21 shooting. He also pulled down six boards, dished out four assists, and had a blocked shot and a steal. He basically willed them to victory in one of his best games of the year.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
- 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.
The James Madison Dukes are:
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Colonial Athletic Association.
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
James Madison has been playing better lately and now with two games getting postponed, I think they will come out and give a great effort on Tuesday. I like them to win and cover.
