The #1 Tennessee Volunteers will host the South Carolina Gamecocks in an SEC battle Wednesday evening from the Thompson-Boling Arena. The Gamecocks are coming off a 77-65 home win against Arkansas, and the Volunteers tallied a 73-61 home win over Florida in their previous action. Tennessee tallied a 92-70 road win against South Carolina late last month.

South Carolina Collects Seventh Conference Win

The South Carolina Gamecocks enter this one winners of two out of their last three games. The Gamecocks have been very competitive in SEC play where they stand at 7-3 on the season, placing them fourth in the conference. South Carolina tallied a 77-65 home win over Arkansas in their previous contest this past weekend. The Gamecocks shot a sizzling 54% from the field, while holding Arkansas to a 38% clip. A.J. Lawson was outstanding in Saturday’s win, sinking 24 points and seven rebounds. The freshman guard is playing well, averaging 18.3 points in his last three games, and he is currently averaging 13.7 points on 40% shooting.

Gamecocks’ leading scorer Chris Silva continues to be a force on most nights, posting at least a 50% clip from the field in three out of his last four games, and he features a 52% field goal percentage paired with 13.7 PPG.

The Gamecocks are currently placed at 94th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they hold a 3-5 road record. South Carolina is scoring an average of 74.1 points, ranking them 145th overall. The Gamecocks defense has been inconsistent recently, and they are conceding an average of 73.7 points, positioning them 241st in the country.

#1 Tennessee Targets 19th Consecutive Victory

The #1 Tennessee Volunteers extended their spectacular run with a solid 73-61 home win over Florida on Saturday. The Vols have now won a stunning 18 games in a row, and they stand atop the SEC standings with a perfect 10-0 conference record. Tennessee continued their strong shooting with a 53% field goal efficiency on Saturday, while holding Florida to a 35% clip. Vols’ top scorer Grant Williams was sharp once again, collecting 16 points on a 7 for 11 shooting performance. The junior forward is consistently producing, and he is up to 19.9 PPG along with 7.3 RPG.

Admiral Schofield has scored 14 or fewer points in three straight games, although he has shot at least 50% in all three games. The senior guard features a stellar 40% efficiency from beyond the arc, and he stands second in team scoring with 16.5 PPG.

The Volunteers only loss this season occurred in overtime to a ranked Kansas team. They have dominated their SEC opponents with several double-digits wins in conference play, although they have yet to play Kentucky or LSU. Tennessee is averaging 85.4 points, good for seventh in the country. They are limiting opponents to 67.3 points, placing them 74th overall.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I expect a decisive home win from Tennessee in this one. Tennessee has won 18 consecutive games, and they have notched several blowout wins. Each of their last five victories have occurred by at least 12 points. The Volunteers are tremendous in both ends of the court, and they only allowed 60 and 61 points respectively in their last two games against Missouri and Florida.

Furthermore, South Carolina does not have the offensive firepower to keep pace with Tennessee. The Gamecocks have only averaged 70 points in their last five games overall. Tennessee already handed South Carolina a 92-70 home loss last month, and I expect another blowout win for the Vols.

Prediction: Tennessee Volunteers

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The over is a strong play in this one. Tennessee was able to score 92 points on a stellar 56% clip from the field against South Carolina last month, and that was on the road. Also, the over is 8-3 in the Volunteers’ last 11 games following an ATS win.

In addition, South Carolina’s defense has not been sharp recently, squandering at least 76 points in three out of their last four games, plus the over is 7-3 in their last 10 conference games.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet
Rating:

Tennessee should have a a big game offensively. South Carolina has not played effective defense on the road. They have allowed an average of 78 points in their last five road games which included 89 points against LSU. Tennessee is shooting over 51% on the season, and they should have their way in the offensive end in this one.

Prediction: Tennessee Team Total: Over

Half-Time Side Pick
Rating:

I am staying with Tennessee on the halftime line. Tennessee is averaging a remarkable 42 points in the first half this season compared to only 35.3 from South Carolina. In addition, the Gamecocks offense hasn’t been sharp in the first half where they have allowed an average of 38 points in their last three games.

Prediction: Tennessee Volunteers
