Air Force heads to UNLV on Wednesday to take on the Runnin Rebels in a Mountain West battle. The Falcons have won two straight, including a 100-92 win over New Mexico in their latest. This is for a team who has struggled on the offensive end of the court all year long, averaging less than 70 points per game even with the 100 point outburst. The win moved the Falcons to 10-13 overall and 4-13 in conference.
The Rebels, meanwhile, are playing great basketball. They will almost certainly have to win the conference tournament to get into the NCAA tournament, but I think they have the talent to win a game or two if they get there. They have won two straight and four of five which includes an 86-78 road win over Nevada.
Air Force puts up 100
Air Force putting up 100 points is one of the more surprising stat lines I have seen so far this year. They are averaging only 69.3 points per game and they went more than 30 points over that in their 100-92 to win on Saturday afternoon. They actually trailed 54-46 at halftime, but had a huge second half to win going away in the end. They shot 59% from the field, despite only making five of 18 from the three point line.
On two pointers, they were an absurd 31 of 43. They also made 23 of 26 free throws which helped them get to triple digits. Nine Falcons scored and every single player who scored put up at least six points. Four of five starters had double digits and the last had nine points.
UNLV is playing great
UNLV is playing their best basketball of the season, and that’s saying something considering how hot they started this season. They have now won four of five and the loss was a two point road loss to a very good Boise State team. Since then, they have won by eight points at first place Nevada and then they handled a 7-5 conference team in Wyoming by a score of 85-70.
In this win over the Cowboys, Jovan Mooring only had 10 points after putting up 31 against Nevada, but the Rebels showed how balanced they can be. Four starters finished in double digits and junior forward Shakur Juiston made 11 of 15 shots to finish with 22 points and 14 boards. They are going to be tough to beat in the Mountain West conference tournament.
The Air Force Falcons are:
- 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up win.
The UNLV Rebels are:
- 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS win.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
UNLV is playing great basketball and I think they are a bet on every time out right now. They will be tough to beat from here on in and I think they win easily on Wednesday.
