USF Bulls (8-18; 7-14-1 ATS; 12-10 O/U) vs. UCF Knights (15-9; 11-8 ATS; 6-13 O/U)
The UCF Knights will take on the USF Bulls in an AAC rivalry battle Wednesday night from the CFE Federal Credit Union Arena in Orlando. The Bulls were handled 73-55 by Temple in their latest action, and the Knights notched a 68-64 road win against Memphis on Sunday. UCF edged USF 71-69 in the first meeting this season.
USF Crushed by Temple in 12th Conference Loss
The USF Bulls’ offensive struggles continued in their terrible 73-55 home loss to Temple on Saturday to plummet to 1-12 in AAC play. The Bulls shot a weak 42% from the field, while Temple was able to post a 50% shooting performance. Isaiah Manderson was a bright spot in the loss, sinking 18 points on a 9 for 12 mark from the field and added eight boards. The senior forward is on a 19 for 27 stretch from the field in his last three games and is currently averaging 8.3 points on a 50.7% field goal efficiency. Bulls’ top scorer Stephan Jiggetts could not get going in the loss to Temple, going 2 for 8 from the field for six points. The senior guard is now down to a 37% clip from the field and is posting an average of 12.4 points per game.
The Bulls have lost five consecutive games and their lone conference win came against Tulane. They are decent defensively, however, they are having big issues scoring points, and are positioned down at 320th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings. USF is scoring an average of only 62.4 points per game, ranking them down at 321st overall. They are allowing an average of 71.2 points, placing them 154th overall.
Knights Defense Shines in Win vs. Memphis
The UCF Knights snapped a mini two-game losing streak with a 68-64 road win against Memphis on Sunday to even their conference record to 6-6. The Knights converted on 53% of their field goals and held Memphis to 41% shooting. Knights’ top scorer B.J. Taylor led the way offensively with 22 points on 7 for 18 shooting. The junior guard has scored at least 20 points in three of his last seven games since returning from injury and is currently averaging 14 points on 40% shooting. A.J. Davis was tremendous in Sunday’s win, collecting 20 points on a 9 for 10 mark from the field to go with nine boards. The senior forward has not played well in conference play, and he is down to 10.7 points on 41.2% shooting.
The Knights are playing the remainder of the season without second-leading scorer Tacko Fall. They have lost three out of their last five games as scoring points have been an issue. UCF is ranked at 100th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, and they own a 3-2 home record in AAC play. The Knights are only averaging 63 points per game, ranking them down at 342nd overall. They are a tremendous defensive team, limiting opponents to 61.4 points, good for third in the country.
The USF Bulls are:
- the underdog is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings between the Bulls and Knights.
The UCF Knights are:
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record.
- 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
I am taking the points with USF in this matchup. UCF is struggling to score points, averaging only 58.4 points in their last eight games, and USF is capable of playing solid defense. Also, UCF is playing without their second-leading scorer and rebounder Tacko Fall which hurts them on both offense and defense. The Bulls were very competitive in their 71-69 loss to UCF in the first meeting, and I expect another close contest in this one.
